The Christmas Tag 2018

As a self-confessed lover of all things Christmas, The Christmas Tag is right up my street. It's been quite some time (a good few years!) since I last did a 'blogger tag', but in with Christmas just a few weeks away I thought it'd be a fun little post to share. If you want to take part too, just answer the tag questions in the comments below!

Before we get stuck in, thanks to Sherry who blogs over at Life at Cooks Cabin who tagged me in her The Christmas Tag post last year, which I shamefully didn't get around to doing, so I thought I'd make sure I ticked it off of my list this Christmas! I'll also be tagging a few bloggers at the end who I'd love to see take part in the fun and festive Christmas Tag and if you're a blogger who'd like to do it too, see this as an open invitation to join in!

WHAT'S YOUR FAVOURITE CHRISTMAS MOVIE?
I do love a good Christmas movie but I think my favourite (and this might be cheating!) is The Santa Clause trilogy, which started back in the early 90's. It's one of my favourites to watch each Christmas and it always makes me feel super festive!

HAVE YOU EVER HAD A WHITE CHRISTMAS?
Yes, I have actually! A few times in fact, but all when I was much, much younger, so think the 90's and very early 00's. I think it would be magical to have a proper white Christmas though like you see in America and Canada, I'm not quite sure we'd ever get that much snow, but I definitely prefer snow to make a quick cheerful show of itself then melt away before getting out and about gets too dangerous. It would be magical to have a white Christmas this year, with Willow and for Hadley's first Christmas, fingers crossed.

WHERE DO YOU USUALLY SPEND YOUR HOLIDAY?
At home! When I was younger I used to alternate between my mum's and my dad's and I've done a few Christmas day's with my brother or with my partners family but for the last few years we stay at home and I much prefer it. It's just more relaxed, especially when you have children to think of, to be able to stay home and enjoy the day with all your creature comforts.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE CHRISTMAS SONG?
I think It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas definitely wins here, although if we're talking Christmas albums, then I do love a bit of Christmas by Michael BublĂ©! It certainly gets me in the festive mood and I'm a little bit guilty of singing my heart out to it as I decorate the tree or cook Christmas dinner!

DO YOU OPEN ANY PRESENTS ON CHRISTMAS EVE?
I have definitely been guilty of this a few times over the years, I can't resist! But, for some reason, since becoming a mother, I haven't opened a single present early. I think it's because Christmas has become about the magic of Christmas again, it's centred around Willow and Hadley now and making sure they feel every bit of Christmas magic possible. I'd be spoiling it if I opened presents early!

CAN YOU NAME ALL OF SANTA'S REINDEER?
Shamefully, not! Not without Googling... The only ones I can remember from the top of my head are Rudolph, of course, Dasher, Prancer, Vixen... Can I blame baby brain!?

WHAT HOLIDAY TRADITIONS ARE YOU LOOKING FORWARD TO THIS YEAR?
Last year, as Willow was old enough to understand Christmas and take a more active part in the celebrations (she was only 11 months old the year before!), we did a whole big thing on Christmas Eve of setting up Santa's plate with a mince pie and some milk, with a carrot for Rudolph and watched lots of Christmas movies together. We also put together a Christmas Eve box, with some festive Christmas stories and activities, so the whole day was really fun and magically. I can't wait to do the same this year, putting our stockings out ready and once the girls are in bed, bringing out all the Christmas presents.

IS YOUR CHRISTMAS TREE REAL OR FAKE?
I have never, regardless of where I have spent Christmas, had a real tree. I would love one if we had a bigger house and the room for once, as I just adore the scent of Christmas trees, but until then my Christmas candles and room sprays will have to suffice!

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE HOLIDAY TREAT/FOOD/SWEET?
I am a sucker for pigs in blankets, which we have as often as we can over the festive season, not just reserved for Christmas day, and freshly roasted chestnuts, my favourite! If they weren't so pricey, I would eat roasted chestnuts all day, every day, all year round!

BE HONEST, DO YOU LIKE GIVING OR RECEIVING GIFTS BETTER?
To be completely honest, I feel a bit awkward about receiving gifts. I love Christmas shopping, trying to find a present that I think someone will really like and I actually really enjoy present wrapping, too! When it comes to receiving gifts myself? I get a bit shy and awkward as I dislike the idea of people spending money on me, so I think I prefer giving rather than receiving.

WHAT IS THE BEST CHRISTMAS PRESENT YOU'VE EVER RECEIVED?
Oooh, now this is a tough one because most things I receive are so different from other gifts, I've never received the same two things although they often have a theme, such as books or tea related things. To be quite honest, I appreciate any gift that someone has taken the time to pick for me.

WHAT IS YOUR DREAM PLACE TO VISIT FOR THE HOLIDAY SEASON?
I would love to do Christmas markets in some European cities or spend some time in New York over Christmas, mostly because it's the typical Christmas city scene in movies! I've done London over Christmas, as I used to live there for a while during University, which is definitely one of my favourite places in the UK to spend Christmas.

ARE YOU A PRO WRAPPER OR DO YOU FAIL MISERABLY?
I like to think I'm good at wrapping, but I'm utterly rubbish at all the delicate extras some people do so beautifully, even something simple like ribbons!

MOST MEMORABLE CHRISTMAS MEMORY?
You know, I don't know if I honest! Christmas Day is something everyone builds up to, all year sometimes but especially in the few months before, that Christmas Day itself can often whiz by in a blur. I'm sure the older the girls get, we will have some pretty memorable Christmas celebrations to look back on though!

WHAT MADE YOU REALISE THE TRUTH ABOUT SANTA?
I don't have a distinct memory in my mind where I was told or found out that Santa doesn't exist, so I think it was more of a gradual thing. That said, I plan to teach my girls about Santa in a way that doesn't quite make him sound like a real person, but more 'the spirit of Christmas', mostly because I think that's something we can and should always believe in, rather than putting our faith in one person who we cannot see or prove exists.

WHAT MAKES THE HOLIDAYS SPECIAL FOR YOU?
Time with family and the way the festive season makes me feel in general. I love making our home cosy and I love decorating. I adore Christmas scents and food and the way the whole of December feels like one big cosy, heartwarming celebration.

I'm definitely ready to get stuck into a month of Christmas festivities now, what about you?

If you'd like to take part in The Christmas Tag, please do feel free! I'm also going to tag a few bloggers below who I'd love to see complete The Christmas Tag this festive season.
