Beauty Through the Decades with Birchbox

25 Feb 2018

We all know I love a good Birchbox theme, so when I opened up the February Birchbox, I instantly thought of 90's TV shows like Saved by the Bell, with a design that is wholeheartedly my favourite box design yet - yes, I'm drawn in by packaging, aren't we all? This is one Birchbox I'll be keeping and using to store little beauty bits in, I love it. It perfectly fits the February theme of Beauty through the Decades, with a throwback to the 70's, 80's and 90's.

A review of the Birchbox UK February 2018

Of course, it's the contents we all care about when receiving a subscription box like Birchbox, which features 5 beauty products covering skincare, body care, makeup and hair care, delivered straight to your door. The February box I received includes 5 products, two of which are full sized products with the other three being very decent travel sizes.

The full sized products in the February box are both makeup products, with a Birchbox Exclusive The Beauty Corp Eyeshadow Trio (£7) and a ModelCo Creme Rouge (£14). Those two products alone are double the price you pay for your monthly Birchbox, which is amazing!

The Beauty Corp is new to me, but the shades in the Love U So Latte eyeshadow trio look perfect, shades I would use on an everyday basis; a shimmery true gold with super fine golden glitter, a warm golden shimmer with taupe undertones and a deep matte chocolate brown. The ModelCo Creme Rouge in Just Peachy can be used as a pop of colour for your lips as well as being used as a blush. Just Peachy is a very bold shade so I will be using this one just as a lip product, but it's going to be fab for throwing in my handbag for on-the-go.

Next up we have a favourite hair care product of mine with a 30ml Bumble and Bumble Thickening Spray. You can check out my full review in my feature Volume Boosters for Fine Hair; years later this is still my favourite go-to product for adding volume to my hair, using it on my root area before blowdrying and also after straightening and styling. Always handy to have more of this around so I was chuffed to see it inside the February Birchbox!

Another hair care product in the box this month is from Percy & Reed, who feature in beauty boxes quite regularly, with a 30ml sized sample of Quite Frankly Flawless Finishing Polish (£10). It promises to be a wonder product for any hairstyle, from poker straight locks to high ponytails that filled the 90's (although maybe not with those fabric scrunchies I am glad to see the back of!), formulated with Horse Chestnut and Sunflower Wax, to keep your hair smooth, defined and in-style, with a healthy looking shine.

Last but not least, the final product in the February Birchbox is a skincare product, with a 50ml sample size of the Sebamed Clear Face Antibacterial Cleansing Foam (£7.99), which is a fab little product for anyone who suffers from breakouts and blemishes. It works to clear skin of dirt and impurities and balance oilier skin types all whilst maintaining your skins natural moisture barrier. I'm not the biggest fan of foam cleansers, as I find they don't work well with my dehydrated skin so this one will be passed on to a friend that will get some good use out of it!

Overall, I'm really happy with the February Birchbox. I love the makeup picks from The Beauty Crop and ModelCo and I'm chuffed to have a handy travel size of my hair-hero Bumble and Bumble Thickening Hairspray. What did you get inside your Birchbox this month?
