I'm a big fan of NARS eyeshadows, owning a little selection of limited edition eyeshadow palettes that make me swoon every time I use them. NARS Jardin Perdu is my first eyeshadow duo, a much more compact way to try NARS eyeshadows, with two shades that have been selected to work together perfectly.

The Jardin Perdu duo was very kindly sent to me by the NARS team, and I have to admit when it arrived I was convinced the shadows wouldn't be to my tastes. Although absolutely beautiful shades to look at, it's been many, many years since the wild and carefree teenager in me would go for silver or metallic-y eyeshadows. In fact, in my late teens I was pretty obsessed with silver eyeshadow - but it's not a shade I go for now at almost 27. So imagine my surprise when I swatched this stand-out duo, and instantly wanted to do my makeup!

The silver shade is described by NARS as a metallic dove grey. Personally, I think dove is a touch too light description wise; when lightly swatched it does have a lovely subtleness to it and works really well as a wash of colour over the lid, but when used with any intensity it's a very definite dark grey-toned silver. The purple shade in the duo is described by NARS as a metallic amethyst, which I think is a very fair description. It's the shade I am getting the most use out of, because i find it easy to team with other shadows and palettes to create a variety of looks, whereas it is still taking me time to get to grips with using silver again! This one in particular I really, really love when softly applied as a wash of colour - it's just so subtle and beautiful when lightly applied.

The colour payoff is amazing for both shades and I love that each can very easily be worn with intensity for a real pop of vivid and stand-out colour, but lightly applied they make such a pretty day-time appropriate duo. Even when used lightly, the longevity is brilliant and with a good eye primer you're set for all-day wear with no fading or creasing. The formula of both shadows is incredibly heavenly; like buttery soft velvet to the touch, they are a real dream to apply and blend, without any nasty fallout. Perfect.

Jardin Perdu is one of the duos which was released with the 2014 Fall Collection, but it's still available on the NARS UK website for anyone wanting to pick it up (and it's worth asking your local NARS counter if they have it in stock, too). At £25 it's not the cheapest eyeshadow duo, in fact it's probably the most expensive eyeshadow duo in my beauty stash (and another reason why I prefer investing in the limited edition palettes that NARS do), but each shade is very reasonable in size at 2g, and the compact itself is beautifully designed like all NARS products with a lovely compact mirror to make stand-out eyes super easy, even when on-the-go or travelling.

What do you think to the shades in Jardin Perdu? Is silver a regular in your eyeshadow stash? Or maybe purple is a shade you're yet to dabble in? Let me know, and if you have any permanent NARS eyeshadow duos you think I should check out, be sure to leave your recommendations below.
