Festive Look | The Christmas Party

20 Dec 2014

A tray of high-end makeup products
This time of year everyone is planning something festive, whether it's a dinner with friends, a work Christmas party or just family visiting to celebrate the festive season. It's the time of year when you need products you can rely on, and with my partner's work Christmas party tonight, I thought I'd share the products I'll be relying on.

If I want a look to last, it's all about starting with the right primers. The Laura Mercier Oil-Free Foundation Primer £29 has been one of my favourite finds of 2014, and keeps my makeup in place without drying out my skin on application. I received this little sample in a beauty box earlier in the year, and it's still going strong. For eyes I'm currently besotted with Too Faced Shadow Insurance £17; shadows apply well, blending with ease, staying in place all day without budging.

You can tell it's a special occasion when the Bobbi Brown Corrector £19 and Creamy Concealer £19 come out to play. Nearing the end of both, I've been using these eye brightening wonders sparingly. The best of the best when it comes to disguising dark circles, evening skin-tone and creating the illusion of fresh, awake and youthful eyes. The shade range for both is pretty extensive; I use Light Peach in the Corrector and Beige in the Concealer.

For base, there's no foundation I can rely on for keeping my skin looking good all night long, and that's the Bobbi Brown Long Wear Even Finish Foundation £31. A foundation I have raved about for a good couple of years now and one which still comes out on top every time. It works perfectly with my oily skin, keeping any unwanted shine at bay whilst creating the illusion of flawless skin. My holy grail base right there! I wear the shade Warm Beige, and it's the closet match I've ever found in a base.

NARS Laguna Bronzer £26 is easily one of the most popular, well-known NARS products, and a bronzer a lot of beauty adorers turn to in the warmer months of spring and summer. On my Mediterranean complexion it's a touch paler than I like for the warmer months, and so I get more use out of it at this time of year. It adds just the right amount of warmth, and can be used for a contour with no problem. A touch of highlight on my cheeks and brow bone using the AERIN Multi-Colour Duo £34, with Hourglass Lighting Blush in Dim Infusion £28 for a slight pop of colour, and my cheeks are done. The AERIN duo is one of my favourite possessions, leaving the most beautiful and subtle highlight, with a warm cream blush that gives the perfect natural flush. Dim Infusion is one of the paler shades in the Lighting Blush range, but one I have found hard to resist turning to in 2014.

Eyes and lips are where I'm paying the most attention tonight. Unable to resist a big eye look, I've opted for products and shades which I love this time of year, with a warming nude lip to finish.

For eyes I'm going for my favourite kind of shades this time of year, with one of my favourite eyeshadow palettes. But first, I want to make sure my crease shade is bold and stands out, so I'll be applying a touch of MAC Pro-Longwear Paint Pot £15.50 in Eclair, a lovely chocolate bronze which adds the perfect amount of depth to enhance deeper, bolder crease shades. NARS And God Created the Woman £35 is one of those palettes which will always stand out for me, I'll be turning to Alhambra for all over the lid, a touch of Bellisima in the center of the lid with Coconut Grove blended through the crease. To line I'm relying on one of my favourite beauty finds of 2014, the Kat Von D Tattoo Liner in Trooper $18/£12.21. A true black, it uses an innovative brush tip making application both effortless and precise. With fab longevity, I know I can rely on Trooper for a bold liner that doesn't budget all day. For the lower lash line and one which works really well with Coconut Grove, is the Stila Smudge Stick Waterproof Eye Liner in Starfish £13, a formula that's both easy to use and long-lasting.

Once shadows and liners are done, it's time to give some life to my naturally straight lashes with my Kevyn Aucoin Eyelash Curler £17, easily the best lash curlers I've ever used and an everyday must-have for me. They provide a naturally looking curl that holds with ease, and teamed with my favourite Eye of Horus Goddess Mascara £15.20, I'm left with lashes that look longer, fuller and more defined (a miracle for my naturally straight and downward-pointing lashes!). For brows, I'll be turning to my long-standing favourite with my Benefit Browzings £24.50 which includes both a wax and powder, the perfect duo for giving brows a fuller and more defined look.

Last but not least. lips. Whenever I wear a nude lip there's no other liner as perfect as MAC Boldly Bare Lip Pencil £12.50. The perfect nude liner which works with a whole variety of shades, I'll be teaming it with MAC Velvet Teddy Matte Lipstick £15.50 and Bobbi Brown Lip Color in Beige Gold Shimmer £22.
