I've
piled up a few more products that didn't quite meet my expectations and decided
it was about time I shared them with you. These are products I've tried, tested
and don't think are worth the hype. Most of the products mentioned are high
street, and one very popular and coveted skincare product, which will probably
be surprising for those who adore it.
Pixi Glow
Tonic Beauty Elixir (Coming soon to Pixi
Online, 250ml, £16) - First I will start with the good news
for those who have wanted to try this very coveted skincare product - Pixi Glow
will soon be available online and you can join the Pixi mailing list to be the
first to know when it's finally online to meet the massive demand! Now onto the
not so good news. I don't like it. I don't hate it but I don't love it and for
me it was a pretty wasted purchase. Glow Tonic is hailed as one of those
miracle workers, with incredible ingredients; including top ingredients
of Ginseng, Fructose, Deionized water, Aloe Vera, Witch Hazel, Horse
Chestnut Extracts and is alcohol free (good thing for all skin types!) Glow
Tonic is meant to be for dry, dull and aging skin and it's an oxygenating,
exfoliating facial glow tonic which works to firm, tone and smooth the skin,
removing any nasty dead skin cells. All of this works towards leaving you with
healthy, 'glowing' skin. I wanted to pick this up more because of the hype
surrounding it and I feel embarrassed to say I spent four months chasing this
one bottle down. It works in pretty much the same way as my Clarins Gentle Exfoliator Brightening Toner, but
whereas the Clarins one does miracles for my skin - this pretty much does
nothing. This is such a coveted and blogger hyped product and I suppose it just
goes to show that not everyone will react the same way to skincare products.
There is literally nothing positive I can report after using this for a
substantial amount of time on a regular basis. That, to me, makes it not worth
the hype.
L'Oreal
Nude Magique Eau De Teint (Boots, 20ml, £6.99) - It doesn't
take long for me to know whether a foundation will work for me or not, but the
new L'Oreal Nude Magique Eau De Teint, hailed as being lighter than water for
that 'zero makeup feel', left me undecided for so long. I wanted to try this foundation as soon as it released
in American and I was thrilled when it came over to the UK. The first time I
tried it I thought hey, this is great! It was weightless, it felt like I had
nothing on my skin, yeah OK it's so, so sheer and light
in consistency but it's easy to build if you let the first application dry
before the next. And OK you get less ml for your money in comparison to other
high-street foundations, as well as it being a bottle without a pump. But it
looked great when first applied and even held off my oil for a good few hours!
Yet there's one massive flaw to this foundation and that is that
it oxidizes like mad! Throughout the day this just gets a disgusting
orange hue to it and when I want a flawless base, an orange tinge and
oompa-lumpa glow is not something I'm aiming for.
Seventeen
Phwoar Paint (Boots, 12g, £5.49) - I love
that more high street brands are bringing out a bigger variety of concealers,
correctors and primers recently and I was intrigued by the recent release of
Phwoar Paint from Seventeen. There's a few things which massively let this
concealer down for me though and unfortunately, it's just not for me. The
consistency is exceptionally thick and sticky and even when warmed between my
fingers, I find this difficult to apply with my fingers, although slightly
better with a concealer brush. Because it's such a thick consistency, it cakes
easily throughout the day and leavings horrible tell-tale makeup faux pas signs
under my eyes. It's also only available in two shades and I opted for medium,
the darker of the two, which realistically makes my eyes look like that of a
Casper. I'll pass thanks.
Bourjois
Flower Perfection Primer (Boots, 7ml, £9.99) - I'm actually quite sad that this didn't work for me as I thought it'd be great if I could finally find a high street primer to work for me. Although that said, if it did work I'd probably be having to replace it pretty darn often as the little 7ml tub doesn't last long with it's slippery and greasy formula. It's meant to smoothing primer, preparing your skin for makeup. For me it just makes my skin feel greasy and it doesn't keep the oil at bay. It smells lovely though!
Have you picked up any disappointing products recently? Or have you tried any of the products mentioned? If so, let me know your thoughts on them - it'd be great to see how these products work for others where they didn't for me.
