October Birchbox review & subscription offer!

19 Oct 2013

To say I was impressed when I opened up the October Birchbox*, would be an injustice. I was over the moon! So no messing about, let's get straight to it.

Laura Mercier Foundation Primer (Birchbox, 50ml, £28) - The first product I noticed completely took me aback. I received a 14.7ml sample (this is going to last months!) of the infamous Laura Mercier Foundation Primer - a product I had only been talking about trying a few days ago on Twitter, when a few blogger lovelies and I were discussing our favourite bases. I am so chuffed to finally be able to try a LM product - as they are a brand I have never dabled in to. The primer promises to be a lightweight primer which leaves your makeup looking fresh and colour-true all day, needing only a pea sized amount for your face, as the creamy gel consistency goes a long way. I am so excited to try this!

Dr. Brandt Microdermabrasion Skin Exfoliant (Beautybay, 50ml, £62) - I've heard of Dr. Brandt, but I don't recall ever having tried any Dr. Brandt products. The sample size in the box is fairly generous at 7.5g, and I love a good exfoliator - so I'm excited to give this a go. It boasts that it's suitable for all skin types and works to brighten the complexion, reducing the appearance of fine lines, acne scars and discolouration. I also really love that this is a tube sample as it's going to come in handy when travelling away! If you've tried this brand before, let me know your thoughts and whether there are any products I should look out for!

KMS California Hair Play Makeover Spray (Birchbox, 190g, £15) - Until I checked on the Birchbox website, I was convinced this was a full sized product when in fact it's a generously sized 75ml sample. I love KMS California. I shared their Tame Frizz range with you all a few months back, and whenever I spot them in TKMaxx I always check out if it's something I want to bring home and try out! I'm excited to give the Hair Play Makeover Spray a go as I've just run out of 'dry shampoo' and this sounds like it'll be a perfect alternative to my usual favourites. It claims to absorb oil, thicken and refresh lifeless hair - who wouldn't be happy with that! I'll let you know my thoughts on this soon!

theBalm Cosmetics Stainiac (Amazon, 8.5g, £10) -  I'm sure you're all getting bored of me raving on and on about theBalm now, but I really do adore their products, so I was super chuffed to see this in the box! I received a cute handbag sized 1.2ml sample and this is a multipurpose stain from theBalm which can be used as a lip tint or a cheek stain. The shade is Beauty Queen and it's a subtle just bitten red. Going to try this out in a few ways and report back to you all soon! I'm also running a giveaway where you could win a theBalm Nude Tude palette. Be sure to enter here

Dr. Lipp Nipple Balm for Lips (Birchbox, 15ml, £11.50) - I know Nipple Balm is an interesting choice for a product name, but this is actually a product I have been intrigued by for a while. It's always on the tempting carousels by the tills in Space NK and I've always wanted to pick it up, but wasn't sure whether it was a product I'd really get much use out of. Never the less I'm excited to finally be able to try Nipple Balm out and I received a cute travel-friendly 3ml sample. Dr. Lipp Nipple Balm claims to be a hydrating, repairing and soothing balm for your lips - definitely something I need in this cold autumnal weather!

LIFESTYLE EXTRA - UltraDEX (Birchbox, 75ml, £8.15) - Now, a lot of people moan when there are toothpaste samples in beauty boxes, and I never understand why - I love them! It's an everyday essential for basic hygiene and let's face it, I think everyone lusts after whiter teeth (except you lucky Americans with your amazing, perfect, straight and dazzling white teeth!) How many times do you run out of a tube, haven't got a back up and you search the house high and low looking for a new tube of toothpaste? Well we do it all the time! Thankfully though, I stash all the handy travel sized toothpaste samples from beauty boxes in the bathroom for emergencies, and they're also perfect for nights/weekends away. UltraDEX promises to kill bacteria, lift stains, whiten teeth and freshen breath - and it's an award winner! I received a perfect travel sized 15ml sample.

BEAUTY EXTRA Egyptian Magic All Purpose Skin Cream (Birchbox, 118ml, £34.90) - This month's beauty extra seriously excited me because Egyptian Magic is a product I have been curious about for months and months! It always catches my eye when I'm in Liberty and I've seen it hailed as an amazing, wonder cream, by many of my favourite bloggers and YouTubers. Egyptian Magic All Purpose Skin Cream claims to be a multi-purpose healing skin cream, which is made with just six all-natural ingredients. I received three 3ml sample sachets and I seriously cannot wait to give this a go!

I cannot tell you how thrilled I am with the contents of the November Birchbox. I finally get to try two products which have been on my radar for ages, there's so many generous sample sizes and I cannot wait to give the KMS Hair Play a go. I love the variety of products in the box, covering skincare, makeup and hair care and I'm always happy to see theBalm in a beauty box. This is a fantastic box and it's left me excited to try the entire contents - I see a few repurchases coming on!
