The weather's brightening up already, and the SS13
collections have started to hit the runway in London and abroad. Beautiful
outfits, spectacular make-up and fabulous nails have all been spotted, but what
about the shoes we can expect to be sporting this summer? By taking a look at
the show pieces on the runway and some high street favourites like Clarks, who just released a Spring/Summer lookbook, it's possible to get an idea of
what's in store!
Sandals
Quirky, colourful sandals have taken over from the classic
Roman look of last year, with some classic and some totally bizarre offerings
on the runway - Alexander Wang went for a pair of sandals with a PVC boot
outline climbing up to the knee, while Proenza Schouler's "Tough
Girl" concept saw some bold straps and buckles. More subtle options made
use of over-foot panelling and unconventional shapes, and it seems this is more
like the kind of this that's reached the high street!
Wedges
Wedges have taken a step back in time this year, with some
decidedly retro designs - as well as inspired pieces by designers like
Belstaff, who launched a pair with a wood finish that wouldn't have looked out
of place on a 1970s coffee table. Meanwhile on the high street iconic looks are
being re-imagined, with neutral colours and attractive, timeless designs.
Pumps
Matching pumps are all the rage this year, so however much
you're spending make sure you grap a range of flats that goes with the colours
of your outfit. Oscar de la Renta went one step further and made flowers out of
leftover dress fabric to decorate the shoes, and it seems that bright colours
and pretty patterns are all the rage at every price range. A pair of brown
faux-leather flats and a matching belt is a good way to get this look on a
budget!
Heels
Smart, semi-formal heels are a classic; whatever's on the
catwalk, you can't deny that a plain black stiletto - or red! - will always
turn heads. The heritage-style palette is also making waves, so look out for
light greens and greys to match with a pencil skirt or a pair of fitted
trousers if you're headed to the office. Alternatively, take a leaf out of Burberry's book and go for a pair of
silver heels to really make an impact on a night out.
