Akti Beach Village Resort Cyprus Review

Over Easter, we headed to Cyprus for a week for our first ever family holiday. As a Cypriot myself, Cyprus is always my first choice when it comes to holidays and it was incredibly special to me, to be able to share my home Country with my daughter. We stayed at Akti Beach Village Resort, which is situated in Paphos and very close to all the hustle and bustle of the harbour and Paphos town centre.

GETTING THERE
Our holiday was booked via Jet2Holidays.com, a package holiday that included everything from the flights and transfers and the stay at Akti Beach Village Resort. Our flight was from East Midlands Airport to Paphos Airport, Cyprus, on April 16th, 2017, with our return flight a week later on April 23rd, 2017. The flight there took 4 hours and 50 minutes, whilst the flight back was 5 hours exactly. Transfers from the airport to the resort and vice versa were provided within the package holiday price; no more than 35 minutes on a well air-conditioned coach from Paphos airport to Akti Beach Village Resort.

ARRIVING AT AKTI VILLAGE BEACH RESORT
We arrived in the early evening and checking in was very quick and easy. The reception team were already ready and waiting for the arrival of any new guests and had our room key and information ready. We had to fill in a quick form with some details, as standard when checking into a hotel, then we were greeted with drinks and offered help taking our bags to our apartment. Whilst checking in we were given a quick run-down of where everything was that we might need, such as the dining areas, pools and shop.

FACILITIES ON SITE
The resort itself, at least in April, was pretty quiet and relaxed, but there's a lot on-site for guests to use and facilities to take advantage of.

Restaurants & Bars: The Filoxeni Restuarant is where breakfast, lunch and dinner is served and is right in the middle of the resort so easy to get to wherever you are. Beachwear is restricted, but other than that it's very easy going. The Pelagos Pool Bar is open from mid-morning to evening and serves drink throughout that time, with light snacks and lunches at lunchtime. It's situated across from Filoxeni and right by the pool and sun-loungers area of the resort. The Serina Cocktail Bar is upstairs, above the Filoxeni Restuarant, open from 10am until midnight, serving drinks, and again, beachwear is restricted here.

Pools: There are 2 outdoor pools, both of which have a children's swimming pool beside them. One, the biggest, is in the centre of the resort near the restaurant and bar, whilst the other is closer to the apartments and near the convenience store. There are areas for sunbathing around the pools and you can get clean fresh towels from reception should you need them. There is also an indoor pool, which is heated, which is directly beside the Filoxeni restaurant.

Sport & Leisure: If you're into keeping fit then you'll be happy to know there is an air-conditioned gym on the resort site, with cardio fitness training equipment, a free weights area, stretching zone and fixed strength equipment. You do however have to be a minimum of 16 years old to use the gym. There are also aerobics, aqua aerobics, athletics, dance classes, darts, table tennis, tennis and yoga sessions throughout the resort.

Entertainment: Throughout the day the entertainment team are on hand to do everything from arts and crafts to games, team sports and water-based activities. Come the evening there is always something to do, with the mini disco for the younger ones, in-house entertainment shows, bingo, karaoke, professional shows and quizzes.

For children, there are a few things on offer around the resort. There is the children's club which is for those aged 3 - 13 years, for little ones to do arts and crafts, games, sports, story time, drama and music-based activities. There's also a children's playground within a little indoor play area.

Spa & Beauty: There is a spa on-site, which can be found in the indoor heated pool area. There is a sauna, steam room, whirlpool and massage treatments on offer. Again, with any beauty treatments, guests must be at least 16 years old.

On-site Mini Market: There is a shop on-site, although it could have more variety for my personal taste. There's sweets, chocolates, crisps, bread, drinks including soft and fizzy drinks, milk and coffees, alcohol and tea making supplies and a few snack bits and light foods. If you're looking for something to take home with you to remind you of your holiday, there are a lot of souvenirs available in the mini market as well as clothing and poolside toys, games and essentials.

OUR ONE BEDROOM APARTMENT WITH GARDEN VIEW
Because there were 4 of us; me, my partner, Willow and my dad, we needed a room that would cater to all of us and so the one bedroom apartment with garden view was the room we went for. Sleeping a minimum of 2 people and a maximum of 4, the rooms come with flat screen televisions (in both the lounge area and bedroom), a safety deposit box, hairdryer, kettle, oven, toaster, microwave, fridge, balcony or terrace - we had a terrace as we were on the ground floor -, bathroom with a bath and shower. Rooms are cleaned daily and the entire apartment is fully air conditioned, with Wi-Fi also available.

The room was spacious and very well set out. A travel cot was provided for Willow, but she decided to sleep with us instead. A spare bed was set up in the lounge for my dad, which was ideal for us and didn't take up much space at all. We did have an issue with the fridge not working at first but once we had called reception, someone was sent round pretty much immediately to fix it for us. The lounge, bathroom and bedroom were all very roomy and lots of room to move around in, whilst the terrace was lovely to sit out on, with a table and chairs provided.

LOCATION
The resort itself is on the sea front, overlooking the beautiful Meditterean sea. There is a little cove where you can access the sea from the resort, but aside from that, the area is very rocky and has short cliffs. There is not a sandy beach by the resort, although Coral Bay is just a short bus or taxi ride away, I do think that is something the website for the resort could outline more clearly; I expected a sandy beach and unfortunately, that's not what we had. Sand aside, the resort is beautifully set out and there is plenty of space, a lot of grass areas as well, to sunbathe, play and relax.

The resort is very close to many main areas of Paphos; 2.2km from the nearest shops and restaurants, 5.4km from Paphos Old Town, 6km from Paphos Harbour and on the coast itself, so lots to explore.

STAFF
I think the staff can make or break a holiday and we were lucky that every single member of the Akti Beach Village Resort staff, no exceptions, were absolutely wonderful. Welcoming, helpful, friendly, always ready to help with anything you need, they simply cannot do enough for you! The staff at Akti Beach really made our holiday for us and made our stay all the more enjoyable. The reception team were so helpful in booking taxis, helping us plan days out, getting us transfer buses to local attractions and always happy to have a chat. The bar and restaurant waiting staff were incredible, nothing is too much to ask and they are always happy to help. The entire staff team at Akti Beach are a real credit to the owners and we can't thank them enough for making our stay as magical as possible.

FOOD
We went for an all inclusive stay, so meals and drinks were included in our package price. The resort is a buffet resort; so there's no menu to pick a specific meal from, which I would have liked, personally, but the food on offer was delicious and there was a huge variety on offer every single day. The food was cooked well, tasted amazing and there was such a huge variety on offer, regardless of time of day, so no matter what your taste preference, you were guaranteed to find something you'd like. Each evening meal had a different theme, from Greek night to Italian night, Oriental night and International night to name a few of the theme nights on offer. Regardless of the theme, the food was great, so much so we were disappointed when we came home and didn't have all that delicious food to delve into!

WOULD WE GO BACK?
Our stay at Akti Beach Village Resort was everything we hoped it would be. The resort was maintained and looked after every single day, the gardens and florals around the resort were just utterly breathtaking and our first family holiday was incredibly enjoyable. I am so glad we went with Akti Beach Village Resort and we would 100% go back again - in fact, we hope to go back next April! If you're looking for a family friendly Cyprus holiday, Akti Beach Village Resort is the ideal place to stay.
