After sun essentials on a budget

When we went to Cyprus back in April we were well prepared with SPF protection for all the family, but I was still a little bit worried of the dreaded sunburn, especially with Willow's delicate skin, so I made sure we had some kind-to-skin aftersun with us as well. If you're off on your summer holiday soon or even catching a bit of sun here in the UK, here are my top two picks for budget-friendly after sun care.

Vichy Ideal Soleil Double Usage After Sun Oil and Banana Boat Aloe Vera Gel Review

Aloe Vera is renowned for it's soothing and healing properties and so when I spotted the Banana Boat Aloe Vera Gel when doing some holiday shopping, I was intrigued, if not entirely drawn in by the bright and stand-out packaging! It works well to relieve discomfort from sunburned or windburned, dry, rough and weathered skin, as well as helping to soothe skin irritation and sensitive skin. It's extremely budget-friendly at just £3 for 230g, which is a huge bottle and would take a while to use it up.

Application wise it has a flip-top and then it's a case of gently squeezing the bottle, but beware it can come out fairly quickly. It has a very fluid gel consistency and when massaged into the skin is instantly soothing; it doesn't leave a greasy residue which is great. For the price, I would definitely purchase this again and we found it was great for Willow, even though she didn't get any sunburn, for soothing her skin after a hot day.

I ensured whether we came in from the sun, I applied the Vichy Ideal Soleil Double Usage After Sun*, as I wanted to ensure my skin was kept as happy as possible after being in high temperatures and direct sunlight. This is a dual-use after sun so it can be used two ways. You can use it on wet skin in the shower, where you would apply to your skin after washing then rinse off, or on dry skin which doesn't require any rinsing away - this is the method we used.

Formulated to hydrate and nourish skin, it uses Shea Oil, Apricot Kernel, Blackcurrant Seed and Echium to provide moisture and nutrients to the skin. It feels very light-weight and super easy to massage into skin without leaving a greasy residue. I do find it soothes skin well, but not as instantaneously as the Banana Boat Aloe Vera Gel. It smells lovely, fresh and light and certainly works to keep my skin moisturised. It's a little a bit more costly at £13 for 200ml, but for adults, I think it's a fab after sun and it lasts ages, due to its oil formula; a little goes such a long way!
