Family day out at Highcross Leicester

Living in Leicestershire, it’s super easy for us to head into Leicester City Centre when we want to go out for a meal or a day of shopping. Having lived right in the centre for many years in my childhood, I know the centre quite well and it’s been lovely to see the renovations take place over recent years, transforming the once small Shires Shopping Centre into the magnificent Highcross Shopping Centre we have now; an enourmous shopping centre designed with a modern and fresh look, celebrating the best brands in the UK, all in one place.

Ohh Deer Papergang Subscription Review

It's no secret I am a huge stationery fan, completely besotted with planners and diaries, loving everything from notebooks to stickers, so when I came across the Ohh Deer Papergang Subscription, I couldn't resist signing up and seeing what they had to offer! I subscribed back in mARCH, so I've had three boxes so far and I thought it'd be good to go through with you what each box included, whether I think it's worth subscribing to and of course, whether I plan to keep subscribed to Papergang myself.

5 Things Nobody Told Me About Motherhood

When you announce that you're pregnant, everyone seems to become an expert on babies and being a parent and they have all the top secrets, tips and tricks. You read all the books, go to antenatal classes and everyone you meet gives you (mostly, unsolicited) advice. You're warned about nappy explosions, sleepless nights and tantrums, but there's more than a few things I wasn't told before becoming a Mother too.

MAC Lipstick Collection 2017

I am a self-confessed lip product addict. For me, lips stand with eyes as the easiest way to make a look POP! and I love how confident I feel just by applying a swipe of lipstick. MAC has always been my favourite brand when it comes to lipsticks and over the years I have spent a small fortune building up a collection of my favourite shades and go-to finishes. It's been a couple of years since I shared a MAC lipstick collection, and since it's grown quite a bit since my last MAC Lipstick Collection post in 2013, I decided it was time to share another!

Too Faced Sweet Peach Collection Review

Over the past couple of years, Too Faced have shot up as one of my favourite beauty brands when it comes to eyeshadows. I find the quality easily equals the likes of Urban Decay, and their palettes have no problems standing out from the crowd with unique designs and gorgeous shade combinations that are just lovely to work with. The new Sweet Peach Collection is one of the most fun makeup collections I've seen and I couldn't wait to try some of the key pieces from the range, which altogether includes an eyeshadow palette, lip glosses, highlighting palette and blushes.

Birchbox UK June 2017 Review

Over the past year or so I've found myself falling out of love with monthly beauty boxes. They just didn't excite me anymore and although there's a good product every now and then, most of the products just didn't suit my tastes anymore. When the June Birchbox UK landed on my doorstep, that excitement I'd been missing with beauty boxes came back in full force - with a gorgeous design for this month's Birch-'bag' and some pretty impressive products, I think the June Birchbox might just have rekindled my love for subscription boxes!

Motherhood has made me a better person

When I look back at my character in my teens and early twenties, I don't always like the person I see. I think, like many people at that age, I was a bit full on and this extended not only to my general personality and demeanour but my opinions, how I presented myself and how I would interact with other people. I wasn't a horrible person back then, but I certainly had a lot of growing up to do and throughout my years back in education in my early twenties, completing my A Levels and getting my Psychology degree, I definitely matured and took more responsibility as an adult. I thought the changes, the literal growing up I did, was a lot - but it's nothing compared to the way in which Motherhood has changed me as a person.

We were recently invited to Ego Restuarant in West Bridgford, Nottingham, and I'm happy to say this is exactly the kind of venue you want to find as a family, somewhere so family-friendly in fact, that they fully cater to little ones and even provide something very special on Sunday's to keep all the family happy.

5 Things I Would Do Differently If I Have Another Baby

I'll let you into a little secret; when I was pregnant with Willow, my partner and I discussed having another baby and both decided we would try almost immediately once Willow was born. We wanted to have 'all the children in one go', so that they'd start school at roughly the same age and I would be able to go back to work full time or even complete my Masters and PhD, without worrying about nurseries and childcare. As luck would have it, the difficulties I faced post-caesarean soon put a stop to that idea and if I'm honest, I'm glad.

I've treasured having this time with Willow, watching her develop, learn, grow - blossom in fact, into this beautiful little girl who is wild at heart. I'm glad she is, for the moment, our only child, because you never get to experience your first a second time and I want to soak up everything with her. I know I wouldn't have been able to give her everything she deserves in these important early years; my time, my full attention, if we'd had another baby straight away, but that doesn't mean we don't plan to have more when we're ready.

My love for Manor Farm goes back many years, back to my own childhood when I would make visits there at weekends and during school holidays, living in the same village and just a short walk to the farm itself. When I was pregnant, one of the things I was most excited about, was being able to share some of my favourite childhood experiences with my own baby. Show them all the things I love, take them to my favourite places, fill them up with experiences. Manor Farm was one of those places I couldn't wait to take Willow, and she absolutely loved it!

Our Changing Bag Essentials

One thing we all associate with being a mother, is changing bags. Wherever we go, they go. Before we leave we have to pack them until they barely zip up, just in case we need anything throughout the day. You need changing essentials, something to occupy your little one, even snacks and drinks.

Recently I've been slim-lining our changing bag, only carrying the absolute essentials and trusting my instinct when it comes to deciding how much to take out with us for the day. Willow's needs have changed over the months and the older she gets, the things inside of our changing bag change. These are our current changing bag essentials, the products we always have to have in our changing bag whenever we leave the house.

We spent a beautiful week in Cyprus over the Easter half term and one of the places we visited whilst there, was Pafos Zoo. I'd looked into things we could do in the area in the run-up to our holiday and Pafos Zoo kept coming up as a recommended place to visit, and so we headed there mid-week during our stay. I love animals and I think zoos can be beneficial in understanding animals as well as aiding research, conservation and breeding of rare or endangered animals. Last year we took Willow to Twycross Zoo, a great family day out and somewhere I hope to visit again this summer, but the chance to visit a zoo in Cyprus was one we couldn't miss, and I'm really glad we went!

Exfoliating pads from Nip + Fab

Yesterday I shared exfoliating lip treatments from GLAMGLOW, but today I wanted to concentrate on exfoliating facial pads from Nip + Fab. I used to be very one-product-only when it came to facial exfoliation, only having tried what I like to call 'manual exfoliators'; lotions and creams with exfoliating beads or ground nut shells that honestly did my skin more harm than good.

In my early 20's, through blogging no less, I came across chemical exfoliators, exfoliating toners, pads and serums, even exfoliating night creams, and I much prefer the way my skin looks and feels without needing to manually scrub something into my skin. An incredibly quick and easy way to exfoliate is by using facial pads, which can be used both morning and night, and Nip + Fab have a huge range, well loved by skincare adorers on all budgets.

5 Things Plus Size Women Should Know When Having a Ceasarean

Most of us probably envision a beautifully calm and peaceful birth. I was flexible with my birth plan, knowing anything could change at any given moment, but mostly? I wanted a water birth with no pain relief except for gas and air. I wanted dimmed lights, a mix-tape of my favourite metal music and perfectly shot photographs of me cradling my newborn in the birthing pool. I wanted delayed clamping of the cord, immediate skin-to-skin and the vernix to be kept on my baby as long as possible.

Instead? I had two failed sweeps, had to be induced at 41+5 days and spent 19 hours in labour before the decision was made that I needed an emergency caesarean. Having never even sprained an ankle before, going in for major surgery was scary, and I was extremely high-risk due to my size and weight, but who knew the surgery would be much smoother than I thought, whilst the recovery would be anything but easy.

Long gone are my days of spending two hours applying my makeup in the morning or late night drinking with friends, swapped instead for trying to get a nappy on a wriggling baby that won’t stop trying to run away and wiping mucky faces after another messy dinnertime.

Becoming a mother is an amazing journey, but one which you can often feel like you are taking alone. Here are five things I think all new mothers should know, things I have learnt since becoming a mama and a few things I think we should all be reminded of every now and then.

I Don't Want To Be Body Positive

Before I fell pregnant with Willow I had been a Weight Watchers member on and off for several years. Overall I had managed to lose over 4.5 stone and I truly believe it not only benefited my health but helped me to get pregnant as quickly as we did. When pregnant I knew that the myth of eating for two was exactly that, a myth, and it wasn't necessary to eat more than 200 additional calories in the third trimester; but of course, I ate more than that and often consumed much more than I was consciously registering. By the time I was two weeks overdue with Willow I weighed 6.5 stone more than my pre-pregnancy weight, a tremendous weight gain, the majority of which was completely unnecessary.

Of course, a lot of that weight gain was down to carrying a baby, the waters which were her home, my body preparing for breastfeeding and I had extreme swelling and Edema which meant I experienced a lot of water retention. However, I'm very clearly no longer pregnant and Willow is now a 1-year-old; yet I still weigh the same as I did when I was 2 weeks overdue with her.
