Beards & Daisies, a unique and stand-out name for an online flower delivery service offering Letterbox Flowers and Hand-tied Bouquets, it's no surprise they've been gaining popularity in the online world. As someone who adores having flowers in the home and finds online delivery services a great way to brighten up your space with bold colours and beautiful flower combinations, I was excited to give Beards & Daisies a try.
More than just review one of their beautiful bouquets, I wanted to delve behind the brand whose name is catching everyone's attention by sharing a little bit more about this glorious brand.
An interview in three parts, over the next few months I will be quizzing Joanne, the founder of Beards & Daisies, on her ever-growing business, her love for flowers and how to prolong the life of the florals in your home.
I wanted to find out more about how her brand came to blossom, especially as Joanne hasn't always been a florist;, Joanne used to work in the world of sales before deciding to re-train in floristry. A decision well made, with a business which is now going from strength to strength, with her work being selected as the best of the best; The Independent championed The Lovebird bouquet as the Best Valentines Bouquet 2016 as well as Best Mother's Day Bouquet 2016.
What made you decide that floristry was the career for you, and what do you enjoy about it the most?
I felt like a square peg in a round hole having a career in sales and I desperately wanted to be doing something more creative. I was working long hours and felt I could be spending that time on growing something that was all mine, rather than contributing to someone else's business and profit, and having my own business would allow me to balance work and life a little better. I'd always been surrounded by flowers, having spent most of my 20's living on London's famous Columbia Road, where the flower market takes place, and I just put two and two together, took the plunge to quit work and retrain in floristry.Beards & Daisies is an unusual name, what inspired it?
I was helping plan my sisters wedding which was to be held in her garden as she wanted it to be informal with lots of wild flowers. This mixed with the fact her fiance and most of his friends have beards, meant we coined her wedding theme 'Beards & Daisies'. The name/phrase stuck and I'd like to think it's memorable enough to stick in everyone else's minds too which can only be a good thing!
Throughout September I have had a beautiful offering from Beards & Daisies brightening up my home. A specially made bouquet of gorgeous British flowers featuring light pinks and berries, bright violets and calming pops of white with bold white roses. I have so much love for British flowers, with their beautiful colours and that tamed-wildness look that they have, this bouquet easily ticked all my boxes when it comes to having fresh flowers in our home.
Presented as one of the hand-tied bouquets, it arrived safe and sound in a very secure box - but if you prefer having your flowers delivered when you're out and about, there is a huge range of Letterbox Flowers on offer at Beards & Daisies. Included alongside your bouquet is an information card, letting you know how best to take care of your bouquet. Snipping stems at angles and adding flower food to your water, checking your flowers every few days and re-cutting stems, removing flowers which have had their day and changing the water are all easy ways to maintain the look of your fresh bouquet.
The majority of my bouquet lasted a glorious 8 days, only needing to remove old stems over the past few days, leaving me with a few longer lasting florals. With 10 or so stems left, I still have a lovely little bunch of flowers bringing up our kitchen, and they don't show any signs of giving up yet!
I can't wait to see what November holds in-store for the florals on offer from Beards & Daisies. You can order your own bouquet, check out the lovely range of hand-tied bouquets and letterbox flowers, all of which can be purchased individually or as a 3 month bundle, over at www.beardsanddaisies.co.uk.
