Rush Hair Salon Leicester

Rush Hair Salon Leicester Review

I've never been the most consistent at getting my hair cut. For years I did my own hair, determined as an ex-stylist myself that I didn't need to go to a salon when I could do it myself at home. That worked, for quite a long time too, purely because of the style I had at the time. Once I started trying to grow it longer and decided it was time to let my shaved-side grow out, things got a little trickier and for the past 18 months I have been getting my hair done more regularly. That said, since having Willow I simply haven't had the time, and so it had been 7 long months since I last had my hair pampered and preened.

It's safe to say I was overdue a visit to the salon, and with the new Rush Hair Salon opening in Leicester city centre, I headed over to see what the team could do to my postnatal hair.

The salon itself is very easy to find, situated on the High Street, much more spacious inside than it looks. When you walk in you're greeted by the reception area, where you can sit and wait for your appointment or browse the products on offer from brands such as Kerastase and Redken. Once I gave my name and appointment time I was greeted by my stylist, Nicole, who was incredibly friendly and welcoming.

I was a little nervous about the appointment, not just because a hair cut was well overdue, but due to the postpartum hair loss I experienced after having Willow. Within 6 weeks of giving birth I had shed a horrendous amount of hair, with fistfuls coming out everyday for 4-5 weeks, leaving both sides and particularly my temples almost completely bald. I'm now experiencing the lovely regrowth period, where my hair is thickening up again, with short hair all over which gives a fussy appearance. Nicole was very attentive in listening to my needs and noting that the regrowth was something we needed to work with; my hair is usually rather thin and fine in texture, so the regrowth was deceiving in making my hair look thicker than usual.

Once we discussed the length I wanted to go for, we headed over to the basins where my hair was washed followed by a conditioning treatment, using Kerastase products throughout. For me, having your hair washed in a salon can be make or break when it comes to whether or not I'll return to that particular salon. Some stylists can be very heavy handed with massaging techniques with scorching water, but thankfully Nicole applied just the right amount of pressure alongside the perfect temperature, making it quite the relaxing experience. The conditioning treatment, a generous helping of Kerastase Elixir Ultime Cataplasme Masque, an oil based masque which is incredibly nourishing, working to replenish and moisturise hair providing a healthy looking shine to dry and damaged hair.

Hair pampered, it was time to get cutting. I decided to go for quite a short bob, long enough at the back to cover my neck whilst also framing my face nicely, which is ideal for round faces. The cut was precise, beautifully executed with some soft layers to give shape and body to my otherwise lifeless hair. The length was exactly what I wanted, which shows how well Nicole listened to my needs during our initial consultation. Blow-dried, straightened where necessary and a few loose curls popped in, I had a whole new look that made me feel much better about myself. Isn't it amazing how much a new hair cut can boost your confidence?

My visit to the new Rush Hair Salon was positive throughout, I left extremely happy with the service I had received and I plan to book myself in for another cut in October. I'm really happy with the cut overall and was chuffed that we'd managed to achieve exactly the look I was hoping for. If you're local to Leicester, the new salon is definitely one worth checking out.

  1. Your hair looks fantastic! It's amazing all the things pregnancy does to a body, even after the baby is born.

  3. Love the new hair it really suits you! I'm so fed up of my hair - like you I lost quite a bit after having Arthur and now I've got short sticky out bits that look like baby hair all around the front of my head and it looks so untidy. Not sure what I can do though other than wait for it to grow or try and cover it with some sort of fringe. Think I'll just put up with it for now! xxx

    1. Thank you lovely! Yup, so there with the short baby hairs! It looks like when I was growing out my undercut and makes me feel so hot all the time. It will grow though, eventually! I think a fringe would really suit you xo
