Browns Lane Loughborough Review

Browns Lane Pan-Fried Scallops Review

One of my favourite places to dine in Loughborough is Browns Lane, a venue with a beautiful restaurant serving a la carte cuisine accompanied by a relaxed bar, perfect for post dinner drinks. Situated on Browns Lane, a minutes walk from Loughborough town centre, it's the perfect destination for any occasion.

My partner and I recently spent an evening dining at Browns Lane, a baby free night and a chance to relax and unwind. Having been to Browns Lane quite a few times before, for meals with friends, Christmas celebrations and work meetings, I was excited to share the venue with my partner who had never visited before.

The staff at Browns Lane are exceptionally friendly and welcoming and as soon as we arrived we were seated at our table and presented with the menus for the evening. For me, staff make a huge difference to the experience you have, whether a restaurant, tourist attraction or even out shopping, and the Browns Lane staff are a real credit to the venue. We checked out the menus, which included delicious cocktails for any taste and food that instantly satisfies, we were in for a treat!

We'd checked out the a la carte menu before we arrived, to excited for our visit and planning ahead the dishes we wanted to try the most. To start I opted for pan-fried scallops, butternut squash, Parmesan crisp with wild garlic pesto, whilst my partner opted for smokey tomato soup, finished with cream and served with a warm cheese toastie, with olives and a selection of bread and oils to taste whilst waiting

I love bread and olive oil/balsamic vinegar platters, and Browns Lane didn't disappoint with a lovely selection of fresh breads alongside some really big and juicy olives, perfect! Having only tried home-cooked scallops before, I was really eager to see how a restaurant compared and was wowed by the beautiful presentation - something which runs true throughout all of the dishes at Browns Lane. Perfectly cooked, they melted in my mouth and were far nicer than any scallops I have cooked before. The Parmesan crisp was a lovely touch and added a lovely crunch to an otherwise buttery soft starter, with the butternut squash and wild garlic pesto bringing a lovely soft flavour kick. Of course, as with all courses, I had to try my partner's dish too and I loved the slight smokey kick to the tomato soup, which you could clearly taste was freshly made. The warm cheese toastie was a great addition to the dish, adding a lovely depth to the otherwise fresh flavours of the soup.

Browns Lane Pan-Fried Duck Breast Review

By this point I was already in food heaven and my partner was really impressed; two foodies well and truly enjoying every last bite. Our mains were even more delicious than our starters, both of us opting for something different to the usual options we'd go for. I decided on the pan-fried duck breast with dauphinoise potatoes, roasted roots and plum sauce, while my partner went for the Browns Lane chicken fajitas; Cajun spices and vegetables topped with cheddar cheese, served with flour tortillas, sour cream, guacamole and fresh tomato salsa.

When our mains arrived we were really impressed with the presentation as well as the generous portion sizes. The fajitas were perfectly spiced with the chicken being soft and tender, packed with tons of vegetables that went down a treat. My main was absolutely divine. The duck melted in my mouth and the dauphinoise potatoes were by far the best I have ever had the pleasure of tasting. The flavours worked really well together and with the lovely matching of roasted veg, the plum sauce added just the right touch of sweetness to the dish.

For dessert we did a very rare thing and both opted for the same sweet choice. Strawberry sundae with fresh strawberries, strawberry meringue, cream and ice cream. A classic summer dessert, it was a great choice to satisfy my sweet tooth whilst being a light and refreshing end to a scrumptious meal. I love the way it was presented, having expected it to arrive in your average sundae glass, instead it was a delight to our eyes.

Throughout the night we dabbled in some of the cocktails on offer, including The Browns Lane Punch; rum, mango, cardamom, clove, cinnamon, lime and pineapple, which were the perfect accompaniments to our meal. We finished our evening off with a coffee liqueur; I opted for Bailey's, presented with a sweet block of fudge.

The night was deliciously satisfying, enjoying stunningly presented food that had been cooked to perfection in a venue that made us feel very relaxed indeed. Even better, the food served at Browns Lane is locally sourced and of the highest quality they can find, which is clear to see from the fresh tastes and flavours. Browns Lane continues to be one of my favourite venues in Loughborough and I know this Christmas I will be back for my second Christmas celebration there. One to add to the to-try list for both local residents and those further afield, a diverse restaurant that doesn't disappoint.
