Bobbi Brown Intensive Skin Serum

Bases are the one aspect of makeup I think it is really important to invest in, especially if you have skin woes and need a base that'll last from morning to night without having to faff around with reapplying or touching up throughout the day. Of course, a good skincare routine is the ideal place to start when you want your makeup to apply flawlessly and last well; creating a happy canvas will always leave your makeup looking better and lasting longer, but for me at least, high-end bases are the only bases I can rely on for a perfect finish.

For a couple of years now Bobbi Brown has been my go-to brand for bases. The Long-Wear Even Finish Foundation is my holy grail base, I'm a huge fan of the highly coveted Bobbi Brown Corrector and Concealer and I'm quite partial to the Bobbi Brown BB Cream, Long-Wear Even Finish Compact Foundation and Skin Foundation Stick too. Being such a big fan of Bobbi Brown bases, I was really excited to try out some of the latest products to join the base range and over the past few months they have easily become my most reached for products when it comes to correcting, concealing and achieving a flawless base.

Bobbi Brown Intensive Skin Serum Corrector and Concealer, £28 each
The original Bobbi Brown Corrector and Concealer are a world apart from the new Intensive Skin Serum Corrector and Concealer. Whereas the originals are firm creams in texture and consistency, these are created with a silky hybrid liquid formula that feels weightless once applied and is incredibly easy to blend to a flawless finish. They come in lovely chic tubes with doe-foot applicators and are very easy to work with; I actually prefer them to the original Corrector and Concealer, finding them easier to blend and longer lasting throughout the day.

The Corrector works to lighten, brighten and even skin tone providing a fresher and rejuvenated look, perfect for disguising dark circles and covering any unwanted discolouration and areas of darker pigmentation. The Concealer also helps to neutralise under eye discolouration, but also primes skin, with both the Corrector and Concealer lasting brilliantly throughout the day without creasing or fading.

It's the formula of the Bobbi Brown Intensive Skin Serum Corrector and Concealer that makes this duo stand out, with skin-boosting Cordyceps Mushroom, Indian Tree Root and Bamboo Grass, each of which work to counteract discolouration as well as having anti-ageing properties. Working to hydrate skin, providing skin with a plumper and smoother feel, each works to re-energize tired skin. Of course you don't necessarily need to use both products together, but I do find they work best that way and I get the most benefits from the products in correcting, concealing and perfecting under my eyes. The Corrector is available in 17 shades, with the Concealer available in 16 shades, both in a variety of warm and cool tones.

Bobbi Brown Intensive Skin Serum Foundation SPF 40, £39
Although I really love the Corrector and Concealer, it's the foundation which is the winning product in the Intensive Skin Serum range for me. With a formula that's infused with Lychee, Bamboo Grass and Cordyceps Mushroom extracts, it's a high-powered formula that helps to give skin an energy boost, providing a fresher, more youthful complexion. It is slightly thick in consistency than I was expecting, but very easy to apply and blend - I find it easiest to apply with a Beauty Blender for a flawless finish, but I find my standard foundation and buffing brushes work just as well. It leaves a really flawless and healthy looking finish that lasts well from morning to night, especially when finishing with a good setting powder and very rarely needing to re-powder throughout the day.

More than just a foundation, it has a powerful combination of serum ingredients which together work to support our skin's cellular energy as well as offering an SPF 40 which can help prevent future skin damage. As a serum base, it's more hydrating than most bases and although better suited to normal and dry skin, I've found it works really well with my combination (dehydrated/oily) skin type. I adore the look and feel of this base on my skin and find it truly unique to other bases in my beauty stash.

The only negative to this foundation for me is the pipette applicator, which I sometimes find difficult to work with and worry may cause difficulties later down the line when nearing the end of this base and trying to get out the last few uses. The Bobbi Brown Intensive Skin Serum Foundation is available in 16 shades covering both warm and cool tones.

If you're looking for a new base wonder team than I really recommend checking out the Intensive Skin Serum range. If you're more of a 'try before you buy' type then don't forget you can get a variety of free makeup lessons at Bobbi Brown counters, where you can try the range for yourself before investing. For me, it's a wonderful range that makes my skin look flawless, what's not to love?

You can check out the entire Intensive Skin Serum range, available at www.bobbibrown.co.uk and Bobbi Brown counters nationwide.

  3. I love the original Corrector, so if the serum version is better I'll be tempted to buy it instead when my pot runs out xx

    1. I definitely prefer it - they are just easier to work with and don't crease at all, whereas I find depending on season/my skin, the originals can sometimes crease on me xo
