FOREO Luna for Combination Skin

A picture of FOREO Luna for Combination Skin
Back in November I shared some of the latest skincare products I'd been giving a try in 2015 which had managed to sneak their way into my skincare routine, impressing me with the benefits they had shown my skin. Whilst sharing these new skincare favourites I made a little mention of the FOREO Luna, an electronic beauty tool very different to the cleansing brushes which have taken over the beauty scene over recent years, and in my opinion far more beneficial for treating and caring for your skin.

Available in a variety of colours, each corresponding to the skin type it addresses, it has been the cool blue Luna for combination skin which has adorned my dresser over recent months, following me into the bathroom a few nights a week for a pampering cleanse. A beauty device like no other I've tried (and I've tried my fair share over the years), the FOREO Luna is a new way of caring for skin in a number of ways; the front facing side features a soft silicone touch-point brush which helps to remove dirt, makeup and grime from your skin, whilst the reverse side features an anti-ageing surface for helping to benefit skin on a long term basis.

What makes it different from other beauty devices? The FOREO Luna uses T-Sonic pulsations which are channeled through the soft silicone touch-points. This allows the device to work gently with your skin in a non-abrasive way, delivering 8,000 T-Sonic pulsations a minute which deeply cleanse without damaging your skin. The surface of these silicone touch-points differs between devices depending on skin type, with each one being designed to work in harmony with your skin's needs.

Using silicone has other benefits alongside being gentle, too, in that it is an exceptionally easy way to keep a product clean and hygienic between uses. I also find the soft silicone feels much nicer on my skin than cleansing brushes such as the Clarisonic, which even when used very gently can have a slightly abrasive feel. It's also 100% waterproof and one single charge will last you an incredible 450 uses - I have only ever needed to charge my Luna once!

I do feel that a device such as the FOREO Luna is best used alongside a cleanser opposed to on bare skin, and I have found the perfect match for it in the form of the budget-friendly Vichy Purete Thermale Fresh Cleansing Gel. I simply apply the Fresh Cleansing Gel to my face, massage in a little to distribute the product, before going in with my Luna. I reach for my Luna 2-3 times a week and love how easy it is to use, always finding my skin looking fresher, much clearer and calmer after use. It's particularly lovely to use before a face mask when cleansing skin ready for your chosen mask, as it ensures your skin is really clean and clear, allowing your mask to work to it's full potential.

As for the reverse anti-ageing side, I have to be honest; I haven't tried it, but it is something I plan on making a regular feature in my routine in 2016. Not only will I be turning 28 this summer, but I am generally paying more attention to anti-ageing products as of late and with my first baby due next week, I have a feeling the late nights and tiredness will soon take their toll on my skin. For those of you who are interested in this aspect of the FOREO Luna, I will post an update once I have given it some consistent use, but for a quick idea it aims to diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles whilst leaving skin smoother and more youthful, whilst being recommended as most beneficial when used both morning and night.

At £123.25 it's not the most budget-friendly of skincare devices, but when you consider that cost spread out over the years you'll use it, I think it is a purchase that ends up justifiable. As an electronic device it's worth noting it also comes with a 2 year guarantee! For me at least the FOREO Luna has been a welcome addition to my skincare routine, a device I much prefer to the more abrasive cleansing products which have dominated the beauty scene over recent years. I'll be adding to the FOREO Issa to my wishlist next!

  1. I keep seeing these and wanting to buy one but forgetting. As soon as I saw it was especially for combination skin (me!!) I'm now more tempted than ever. There really is nothing better than a clean fresh face. I'm on a student budget so I have no idea how I'll come up with the £ but it's now at the top of my list! Great recommendation.

    1. I think it's fantastic that there are different devices for different skin types. Traditional electronic cleansing devices have interchangeable heads based on skin type, but it can get quite expensive to keep replacing them! xo

  2. I've always been curious to know how this works. Definitely an investment but then beautiful skin comes with commitment, not a miracle :D

  3. Thank you for your review! I actually picked up the pink one recently during the Sephora sale. It was in the sale section, and they had their 20% off coupon code so I splurged. I've used it a few times, but wasn't sure what to think. I have a Clarisonic Mia which I had been using regularly and quite liked. The two are very different, and having been used to the Mia, the Foreo is quite odd. I was thinking about bringing it back, but after your review, I'm encouraged to keep on using it. Also, thank you for mentioning that it is waterproof! That was one of the things that was making me lean towards bringing it back as I like to wash my face in the shower, and I was concerned about the open charging port. I don't quite get how it is waterproof, but I'm quite happy that that's the case!

    1. I'm not sure I'd take it into the shower, personally, but then again I wouldn't take any electrical device into the shower regardless of waterproof claims. Perhaps contact FOREO via social media or their customer services to clarify if that is a wise move before doing so? I think the FOREO range and Clarisonic are a world apart. In general the Clarisonic is more an exfoliating cleanser device over long-term use, I feel, compared to the FOREO Luna which is a cleansing and anti-ageing device that is so much more gentle on skin. xo

  5. I thought this was a makeup brush cleaner at first glance, it's so odd looking! I've never used much more than cleanser and a flannel on my face but this is definitely interesting xx
