The December Subscription Boxes 2015

A picture of Birchbox UK December 2015 Birchbag

Last month I introduced a new way of sharing my monthly reviews of UK subscription boxes, the November subscription boxes 2015, and it seemed to go down pretty darn well. Instead of featuring each different subscription box in it's own individual post (which with the amount of monthly boxes I receive, can often take up a lot of posts throughout the month), the new way I will be sharing each month's subscription boxes is in one handy round-up review post.

With December - and 2015 - almost over, it's time to share this month's subscription boxes with you all. December boxes are always fun, it's a great time for the different brands to up their game and make their box not only festive, but one which stands out from all the other boxes who are also trying to make that perfect end of year box. With so many subscription boxes going above and beyond in 2015 to step up their game when it comes to brands and products featured inside of their monthly boxes, the December box has never been such an important box to get right.

Birchbox UK | A monthly beauty subscription service that often includes lifestyle extras, featuring 5 luxury beauty treats from high-end brands covering makeup, body care, hair care and skincare. Subscribers can review products found inside their boxes on the Birchbox website in return for 'Birchbox credits', which can be used in the Birchbox e-shop. You can also purchase the products and brands featured in each month's box in the Birchbox e-shop. Birchbox costs £10 a month plus £2.95 post and packaging. Available at www.birchbox.co.uk

I was pretty excited when the December Birchbox UK arrived, because not only is the contents pretty darn good this month, but I am absolutely smitten with the 'Birchbag' that they came in, opposed to the usual cardboard box. So much so, I actually used this as my evening bag for my partner's work Christmas do, with it's perfectly festive colours and design, big enough to fit all my essentials in for the night ahead. This is the second time in 2015 that Birchbox opted for a 'Birchbag' instead of the typical boxes, and I have to admit, I'm quite a fan of the bags! For me they are much easier to reuse and upcycle than the boxes.

Contents wise I am more than happy with both the brands and the products featured for December. The first thing I noticed was the bigger product in the bag, a Rituals T'ai Chi Foaming Shower Gel (£8.50), which is a product I've tried before in a different scent and really, really liked, so I'm pretty excited to try the T'ai Chi one. A really lovely and luxurious foaming shower gel that cleanses and nourishes skin. The Beauty Bonus for December is also a body care product, with a sample of the Catherine Malandrino Style de Paris Eau de Parfum (full size from £50). I find perfume samples super handy as not only can you give them a good few tries before deciding if the full size is for you, but they are the perfect size for chucking in your handbag!

Next up we have one of two Birchbox Exclusives, The Ultimate Party Kit from Benefit. Not quite a party kit, but a duo-sample box of Benefit Puff Off! Instant Eye Gel and Benefit They're Real! Push-Up Liner. Each is more sample size than travel size, but would give you a fair few uses each. I've tried both of these products before and I'm personally not a fan, but I do love how long Benefit samples last. If you bought this duo in their full sizes, they'd cost £41 for the duo, so it's a good way to try before you buy. The second makeup product is also the second exclusive, this time in the form of a full size ModelCo Ultra Long-Lasting Lipstick (£15.50 for a set of 3) in the shade Smitten, which is one of three shades available in a trio set exclusively created for Birchbox. I love when Birchbox feature ModelCo as I have always been impressed with their products, and this lipstick is another lovely pick; I particularly love how perfectly autumnal Smitten is. Nails are covered with another perfect festive pick this month, with a mini Ciate London Paint Pot (full size £9) in the shade Fit for a Queen. I've tried this polish already and absolutely love it! The only silver in my nail polish collection, it was the perfect shade for Christmas festivities.

Last but not least and the final product seeing out 2015 for Birchbox UK, is a sample of the 2015 must-have skincare product, Embryolisse Lait-Creme Concentrate (full size from £12.99). I really like this moisturiser, but my partner is an even bigger fan (oh yes, I recently got him to start using a moisturiser!). A lovely light-weight moisturiser that helps to hydrate with Aloe Vera and Shea Butter.

A lovely December offering from Birchbox UK, I can't wait to see what they have for us in 2016!

A picture of December 2015 The Melt Crowd Box

The Melt Crowd | A monthly subscription box containing 8 Scent Melts from Flamingo Candles, including exclusive monthly scents and a free wax burner with your 1st box. The Melt Crowd costs £10 a month including delivery, with a contents worth £18.95. Each month includes an exclusive 20% off discount code to use on the Flamingo Candles website. Available at www.flamingocandles.co.uk.

I was really looking forward to the December The Melt Crowd Box, looking forward to seeing what festively themed scents would be included. It's safe to say I wasn't disappointed when I opened up this month's box, which not only included the usual 8 Scent Melts but also came with a lovely little festive gesture in the form of a Flamingo Candles motif Christmas tree decoration.

There are 3 Melt Crowd Exclusive Scent Melts in the December box and each is pretty darn deliciously scented. There's Christmas Pudding and Mistletoe, both of which are very festively themed, alongside Black Cherry. I adore black cherry scented candles, to the point where in my late teens the only candle you'd ever catch me with was Yankee Candle Black Cherry, so I'm really chuffed to have a Flamingo Candles take on a favourite scent of mine. The remaining 5 scents in the December box are Asian Pear & Plum, Mulled Wine & Berries, Cinnamon Sticks, Vanilla Milk Bottles and Black Tea & Almond.

Cinnamon Sticks and Mulled Wine & Berries are both part of the Christmas range, scents we have loved burning here in the Tattooed Tealady house over Christmas, but the other scents are completely new to me. I'm not the biggest fan of marzipan scents, which is how Black Tea & Almond smells to me, but Asian Pear & Plum and Vanilla Milk Bottles are both scrumptious!

Overall another fantastic box from The Melt Crowd and one which has left our home smelling beautiful over the festive season. I've snuck a few of the melts to one side to use in January before the January box arrives and the Flamingo Candles motif tree decoration has been a lovely addition to our tree. I can't wait to see what scents are included in the January box, especially as I love to go for more refreshing and reviving scents in the New Year.

A picture of December 2015 The Vegan Kind Box

The Vegan Kind | A monthly lifestyle subscription box including food, drinks and home products which are all 100% suitable for vegans. Each month The Vegan Kind donate 20p from the cost of each box to an animal charity chosen by subscribers, with each box including a generous array of products as well as a tasty recipe card. The Vegan Kind costs £10 a month plus £3.15 post and packaging. Available at www.thevegankind.co.uk.

I had a feeling the December box would be quite the scrumptious offering and I'm pleased to say I was right! There's lots of delicious treats in this month's box, both from brands I've tried before and a couple of brands which are new to me. The products included are definitely indulgent, extremely tasty and one home themed product smells almost good enough to eat!

The first thing which caught my eye, a product and brand which has featured in many TVK boxes in the past and I am always delighted to see, is a bag of Freedom Mallows Marshmallows (£2.49). Honestly, you will never try marshmallows more delicious than these and I could happily eat these all day long! Something which really intrigued me in this month's box is a packet of Sticky Mix Oat and Cranberry Cookie Mix (£6), which includes all the ingredients (in the right ingredient portion sizes) you need to make 12 cookies. I love baking but haven't tried a 'ready to use' kit like this since I was a kid, so I'm excited to give this a try as it'll take all the fuss out of measuring and weighing ingredients! A brand which has featured in previous boxes, there's a Sweet Freedom Choc Shot (£3.50) in the flavour Orange Spice, which is quite the festive flavour! We've tried a few of these over the past year or so and I do like them, but I'm not so keen on this particular flavour - so I've passed this on to a friend who is much more keen on chocolate orange flavours than me!

Another new brand to me comes in the form of Cocoa Libre Dark Mint Chocolate Owls (£1.89), which I'm keeping in the baking cupboard for the next time I make cakes, as they've been recommended by TVK as lovely cake toppers! The final edible treat in the December box is something I've popped in my hospital bags as one of my 'keep me going' healthy treats, which is a Nakd Christmas Pud Bar (£1), which is a limited edition flavour from a brand I've grown to love finding in TVK boxes! Last but not least, the final product tucked away inside the December box is a festively themed Not Even a Mouse Harper's Candles (£8), which smells just like Christmas pudding mix! A vegan friendly candle, it is very strongly scented and was a really lovely scent to burn on Christmas Day and made our home smell very festive indeed.

Another delicious box from The Vegan Kind, with the perfect little lifestyle extra with the candle. I can't wait to see what The Vegan Kind have in store for their 2016 boxes, always our favourite box to arrive each month.

Will you be signing up to any monthly subscription boxes in 2016?
