Herborist Discovery Kit

The Herborist Discovery Kit featuring four key skincare products
It has been a long time since I introduced a new brand into my skincare routine, particularly one I had never heard of before let alone knew anything about. When a petite discovery kit for Herborist, a new skincare brand exclusive to FeelUnique, arrived a couple of months ago I was really intrigued, intrigued enough to implement all of the products into my routine and see how they worked for me. A Chinese skincare brand, Herborist has beautiful and simplistic packaging and offers a unique approach to beauty, utilising the power of plants with innovative and modern cosmetic formulations. We all know the Chinese have been known throughout history for their medicines and techniques - could their skincare live up to that? I couldn't wait to try the Herborist Discovery Kit for myself and find out!

The Discovery Kit features 4 Herborist products; a day cream, an eye cream and two face masks. Each is actually very decently sized and will last you a fair while before you need to think about replacing them, whether that be purchasing the full size or going back to another product or brand you prefer. The beauty of kits like this is that you have the chance to try what is realistically a high-end brand for a reasonable price with a couple of months use in each product, rather than investing in the full size products straight out without knowing if they will be right for you and your skin.

Looking after the delicate skin under and around my eyes is extremely important to me, as such thin and delicate skin needs extra care and the products I use everywhere else won't necessarily be beneficial in that area. The Herborist Revitalizing & Firming Eye Cream (£37, 15g) has been perfect for us as a morning eye cream, with a light-weight creamy texture that pampers, protects and revitalises the delicate skin. The formula boosts a potent trio of herbs; Rhodiola Sacra, Ganoderma Lucidum and Fragrant Solomon's Seal, working together to deal with the 3 main concerns we have around the eyes; wrinkles, dark circles and puffiness. I've found it works wonderfully well to reduce puffiness in the mornings and has helped keep my complexion in that area even. Thankfully I'm not yet at the age where I have wrinkles, so I can't comment on how well it works for wrinkles, but if that's a skin concern you have then the Discovery Kit would be a good way to try the eye cream out for yourself. The Discovery Kit features a 5g eye cream, whereas bought individually the eye cream comes in a 15g size.

My favourite product from the Discovery Kit and one which I would happily repurchase in the future if I needed a new day cream, is the Herborist Revitalizing & Firming Day Cream (£39, 50g). The Discovery Kit features a 5g sample and mine lasted absolutely ages! I was such a big fan that it featured in my June beauty favourites and I was actually pretty sad when I finished it, as I had enjoyed using it so much. It's an anti-ageing day cream which nourishes and firms skin whilst boosting radiance and, like the eye cream, smooths wrinkles. The star active ingredient is Rhodiola Sacar, which triggers collagen and elastin production, alongside Ganoderma Lucidum which is an anti-oxidant which protects skin against free radicals and Fragrant Solomon's Seal which works to tone - all three of which also feature in the eye cream. It's a very light-weight day cream but actually leaves my skin feeling more hydrated, softer to the touch and plump than most day creams I have tried and also has a lovely refreshing scent that's subtle and very soothing once applied.

Last but not least, the kit features two face masks; which actually come as one in full size with a very decently sized 290g pot being split into two almost like the Yin and Yang symbol. The Herborist T'ai Chi Masks (£59, 290g) comes in two separate tubes in the kit, each 30g in size - so easily a couple of months use, minimum. Created to work in harmony just like Yin and Yang, they compliment each other and are best used one after the other. The Black Herborist T'ai Chi Mask is the first mask you should use, formulated with an array of active herbal ingredients including Red Peony, Bamboo Charcoal and Ginkgo Biloba, which works to clear the skin of impurities such as dead skin cells and excess sebum, gently purifying skin and deeply cleansing. You simply pop on as you would your usual mask, leave on for 5 minutes before rinsing off with warm water. Whilst your skin is still damp you pop on the White Herborist T'ai Chi Mask, leave on for 10 minutes and rinse with warm water. The white mask works to nourish and sooth skin, and in my experience has also worked really well to leave my skin feeling softer and looking revitalised and refreshed.

I have really, really enjoyed trying out Herborist and I do think all the products are wonderful. If I was to repurchase any it would be the day cream, purely because I have my favourite eye creams and I think there are more budget-friendly masks which benefit my skin just as well, but it was really lovely being able to try out a variety of products in the Discovery Kit. It'd be a great kit for anyone wanting to expand their skincare routine or for someone off on their travels, as each does last such a long time; I'm still working my way through the masks and eye cream!

You can pick up the Herborist Discovery Kit over on FeelUnique for £25.
