Kiehl's morning and night

A picture of Kiehl's Daily Reviving Concentrate and Kiehl's Midnight Recovery Concentrate

When you have oily skin the last thing you'll think will help is putting on facial oils. I for one was really confused when I was told a facial oil could be just what my skin needed; surely putting an oil on already oily skin will just make your skin worse? I still remember the very first time I used a facial oil and how convinced I was that it would end badly, yet after a few days use I saw such positive changes in the condition of my skin, that since then oils have been a daily must-have in my skincare routine.

I wish I'd known about facial oils at a younger age, because I might not have spent so many years so down in the dumps about my excessively oily skin. When I say excessively oily, that is by no means an exaggeration. On non-makeup days if I would press the palm of my hand against my forehead, it would come away so shiny to the point of needing to clean my hands. If I was wearing makeup, which admittedly back in the day was cheap makeup which didn't work well with my skin (before I knew better about what my skin prefers), I would look as if I was sweating my makeup off - but I wasn't, it was just extreme excess sebum production. There were days I would be in tears because of how oily my skin was, nothing would fix it; setting powders, blotting sheets, makeup setting sprays. Nothing worked and I honestly thought that was what I would have to deal with for the rest of my life - this was long before I started to understand and learn more about skincare, something which ever since has been absolutely life-changing for me. Unless you have highly sensitive skin (in which case I would always recommend getting professional advice and product recommendations based on your sensitive skin), or you are sensitive to certain ingredients, I honestly cannot recommend using a facial oil enough.

Whenever I share my thoughts on skincare 'extras' such as serums or facial oils, I always say the same thing. They have made the biggest positive change to the condition, health and overall look and feel of my skin and I could not imagine my skincare routine, either morning or evening, without them. When it comes to oils I have a few favourites, but there's always one brand I turn to which my skin laps up, a brand whose night-time oil is unbeatable in my eyes. That brand is of course Kiehl's, who are adding a beautiful new addition to their facial oil range, this time one specifically formulated for morning use. A Kiehl's facial oil for morning and night, my skin is very happy indeed.

Kiehl's Daily Reviving Concentrate* - £36, 30ml (due for release September 2015).
First impressions with this oil were very, very good. I really like that it is presented in the same bottle size and format as the Midnight Recovery Concentrate; a 30ml recyclable glass bottle with dropper pipette and plastic squeeze top. The glass itself has a sunshine yellow look with white top which I personally think is great for the fact it is a morning oil, and it makes it super easy to distinguish between the two oils opposed to if they were both dark in presentation.

Created to boost skin's natural daytime defense, Daily Reviving Concentrate works to revitalise skin whilst helping revive lacklustre skin by to reducing the signs of skin fatigue. It combines an energizing blend of Ginger Root, Sunflower and Tamanu Oils which work together beautifully to provide continuous hydration throughout the day, whilst working hard to protect and defend skin from daily aggressors. Like the Midnight Recovery Concentrate it has an extremely lightweight formula that once patted into skin sinks in beautifully without leaving any greasy residue. It also has a really lovely scent, slightly sweet but not overpowering. My skin instantly looks more radiant once applied, which is just what I need in the morning's, and it works well both under makeup as well as on makeup free days.

Midnight Recovery Concentrate is one of Kiehl's best selling products, adored worldwide and a pretty iconic product in it's own right. The new Daily Reviving Concentrate has a lot to live up to, but so far so good; I'm really impressed with the positive benefits I have seen with my skin since implementing this bright and cheerful oil into my morning routine and it has been particularly wonderful throughout my pregnancy so far, keeping my skin looking healthy, happy and radiant, even after a rough night's sleep or when I'm not feeling so great. I think it's a fantastic addition to the Kiehl's family and I see the Daily Reviving Concentrate becoming as well loved as the Midnight Recovery Concentrate.

Using the Daily Reviving Concentrate each morning is the perfect way to start your day, but your skin deserves a pamper at night time too and before bed I always, for many years now, turn to the Midnight Recovery Concentrate. A night-time specific facial oil, it is a beautiful elixir which left me completely wowed after my very first use, a product I have been besotted with ever since. Designed to give skin a pamper throughout the night whilst our skin is working it's hardest, it has an incredibly effective and hard-working formula of Squalane, Evening Primrose Oil, Omega 6 Fatty Acids and essential oils such as Lavender.

The scent is a bit more on the 'essential oil' side of things compared to the sweeter scented Reviving Morning Concentrate, but it is also quite subtle so nothing too overpowering for anyone who isn't keen on intense scents. As with Reviving, it's light-weight in consistency, applies beautifully and doesn't leave any residue on your skin. I like to call Midnight Recovery Concentrate my little miracle in a bottle, because it is phenomenal the way it pampers and treats my skin whilst I sleep. It's main aim is to replenish skin, boosting hydration and leaving skin looking younger, happier and healthier by morning - something it manages with ease. I also find it works wonderfully to give my skin a softer feeler, almost like velvet, whilst keeping my skin supple and plump to the touch.

Both oils teamed together for morning and night use make a beautiful duo, and my skin has certainly enjoyed the 24 hour pampering that both oils used consistently provides. I appreciate £36 is not within everyone's budget, but for me these oils are worth the price; I am on my second bottle of Midnight Recovery Concentrate now and the first lasted a good 14 or so months, as just a few drops is more than enough for each use. Less is always more with facial oils and the thin consistency of these oils means you really do manage to get your monies worth.

If you're unsure, I really recommend popping into your local Kiehl's store or stopping by your local Kiehl's counter for a full skin consultation. This is something that is available at both counters and stand-alone stores, completely complimentary and a great way to learn more about your skin from dedicated and knowledgeable Kiehl's team members. You even get to take home a couple of product samples to try out, so it could be the perfect way to 'try before you buy'.

  4. Like you, I wish I'd known about the benefits of oils on oily skins when I was younger, too! After years of using light lotions and stripping cleansers, I finally tried more nourishing products and realized that it was the harsh products and lack of moisture that had been causing all my skin problems. Now, my face can't get enough hydration and it's the best it has ever been! I've tried the MRC and loved it, so I'll have to give the Daily Reviving Concentrate a go :)

    1. You've pretty much described my experience before learning more about skin and skincare products/ingredients! I thought so long as I cleansed, toned and moisturised, I was doing the right thing. Yet I was using all the wrong products and not enough of the right products! Let me know what you think to the Daily Reviving Concentrate :) xo

  10. I will have to find out if there is a Kiehl's counter near me, I'd love to pick up some samples. I wish I'd started using facial oils earlier too - I don't tend to use one in the morning but I do every night xx
