If you follow Birchbox UK on any social networks, such as Twitter or Instagram, you'll know that each month they share sneak peek's at what's to come in that month's Birchbox. At the beginning of July they shared a sneak peek for the July box, or not as the sneak peek revealed! When Birchbox shared the news that the July 'box' was in fact going to be a BirchBAG, boy was I excited!
The theme for the July BirchBAG is 'Make a Splash!', perfect for summer and especially for anyone lucky enough to be heading somewhere hot over the next few months. For the first time ever the classic monthly Birchbox boxes have been replaced with bright and funky splash-proof clutches, perfect for popping in your handbag or keeping your essentials with you on the beach. Subscribers will receive 1 of 4 different coloured clutches, each representing a different holiday destination selected by editors of some of the most elite UK magazines. Edwina Ings-Chambers, Beauty Director at Sunday Times Style selected the coral bag which represents St. Tropez in the South of France, Fiona Joseph, Fashion and Beauty Director at Conde Nast Traveller selected the turquoise bag to represent the Island of Hydra in Greece, Rose Beer, Beauty Editor at Grazia, selected the yellow bag to represent Somerset right here in the UK, whilst my delightful neon pink bag was selected by none other than Jess Diner from Birchbox UK and represents Ibiza! Let's unzip and see what's inside shall we?
The first product I noticed when I opened up my BirchBAG was a sample POP Beauty Peach Parfait Eyeshadow Trio (£15.50), a really impressive product to receive in a beauty 'box' - I don't think I've ever received an eyeshadow palette before! The shades are absolutely lovely and really great for this time of year; the lightest shade is a pale white highlight shade, the middle shade a lovely cool toned peach and the darkest shade is a beautiful copper. Each has a shimmer finish, with incredibly soft formulas that are easy to apply and blend. A lovely little palette and I'm really impressed with the quality. Full size POP Beauty palettes have 10 shades, which is pretty reasonable for the price!
Another makeup product featured in my BirchBAG is a full size Jelly Pong Pong Glow Getter Luminizer Gel (£8.95). This is the only product in the bag I'm not excited by because it's just a touch too stark as a highlighter for my olive complexion and I also really struggle with liquid highlighters - but I do think this would be great for paler beauties who want a subtle highlight.
Next up we have a 7ml travel size sample of the Balance Me Congested Skin Serum (£16), which I've tried before and think is really great for giving your skin some much needed TLC when it's playing up. Formulated with Chamomile, Lavender and Aloe Vera, it pinpoints breakouts whilst soothing skin, and it's even suitable for all skin types. Just pop it on the breakout or congestion-prone areas and leave it to work it's magic! Balance Me is such a fantastic brand and I'm a big fan of their products, their travel sizes last forever, so this is a great sample to find in my BirchBAG.
For those of you who love catching the sun but find your skin can be a bit hot, sore or sensitive afterwards, there's a super generous 30ml sample of UNANI Aloe Vera Gel (£15). Personally I think Aloe Vera is a must-have for any household, let alone beauty stash, an invaluable product to have for sensitive, sore skin that's flaring up and needs calming and soothing. Very handy product to have, a fab pick by the Birchbox team with the hot weather we've been lucky to get recently here in the UK!
A brand which regularly features in Birchbox is Benefit Cosmetics, which personally I love to see as they're a high-end brand who may be out of budget for a lot of people - getting to try their generously sized samples is a great way to try their cult products before investing in the full size. Plus, I find their samples last forever, especially their makeup samples. Inside my BirchBAG is an adorable 6ml sample of Benefit Dream Screen (£25) which is a super light-weight matte-finish sunscreen with an impressive SPF45. This is one of my absolute favourite SPF's and I think the formula is spot on; so easy to work with, no unnecessary residue left on the skin and even works well under makeup. This little sample size is going to be perfect for makeup-free days when I'm out and about, a handy sample to top up my SPF with! Also great size for anyone going to festivals or grabbing a weekend away.
Last but not least and this month's bonus beauty extra is a full size Barely Prep, Blot & Blend Sponge (£5.99). I am definitely a self-confessed Beauty Blender addict and I am yet to find a budget alternative which does the job as well, so I'm excited to see if Barely is the brand that finally compares!
Overall I'm really happy with the contents of my BirchBAG. Minus the highlighter which I'll pass on to a paler-beauty friend, every product has seriously impressed me and I am so, so happy with the products I received! I'm also so smitten with the bag.
Keep an eye on www.birchbox.co.uk, where throughout the month each of the editors who collaborated with Birchbox on the BirchBAG colours and destinations will be sharing their holiday picks from the Birchbox e-shop over on the Birchbox blog. In the meantime you can pick up all the products and brands featured in this month's BirchBAG in the e-shop, and if you're new to Birchbox you can subscribe for £10 a month plus p&p!
