My eyelashes are very hard to please. One beauty feature I always envy on other girls (and sometimes even boys), would be having long, luscious lashes. Mine are the opposite with no hint of a natural curl, they always point downwards, and I have to reach for my eyelash curlers every single day. By the end of the day, most mascaras haven't held up to the job and my lashes are back to the way they were. There's only two mascaras I can rely on to hold a curl on my lifeless lashes all day long, but both are high-end and ones I can't afford to repurchase regularly. Mascaras have a 3 month life span, and spending £25+ on a mascara every 3 months isn't quite within my budget. I've tried eyelash perming before, back when I was in hairdressing college (which also did beauty), but after a couple of very successful attempts, I had a really bad experience and I've been put off ever since. I have to rely on mascaras for making my lashes pop, and I've finally found a new favourite with a budget-friendly price tag, the Bourjois Volume 1 Seconde Mascara (£9.99).
Featured inside The Glamour Beauty Power List 2014 Beauty Box (£15.99) (read review here), it's my favourite product from the box and I have used it every single day since. All the products featured inside the box were picked by no other than Glamour Beauty Director, Alessandra Steinherr, so I knew the mascara was going to be good, I just didn't think it would be this good! The box is still available by the way - so I'd snap one up quick if you don't want to miss out!
With a slightly different design to your standard high-street mascara, it's rounded with a curved top, which I actually find makes application easier as the brush is easier to hold and use. It has some pretty big claims; it promises to wrap every lash in a 360' motion for clump-free definition. The brush isn't too stand-out, it's a nice length with the perfect amount of spherical bristles to catch all your lashes, without any unwanted clumping. The formula is also pretty spot on; just the right consistency to apply to all lashes with ease, with a quick drying time and long staying power. It doesn't clump, smudge or budge, but it's also pretty easy to remove with a good bi-phase eye makeup remover. What sells this mascara the most for me is it's ability to hold a curl. I always curl my lashes before applying, popping on two coats of mascara, and each time I've used the Bourjois Volume 1 Seconde Mascara, that curl has held all day. It's been a long, long time since I tried a high-street mascara that was this good - and I think I've just found my new favourite.
