Although my favourite scents are the musky, deep and warm scents I turn to in winter, my scent preference completely changes as soon as we get some sunshine. Gone are the more masculine musks and spices, out come the sweet, floral, refreshing and totally addictive scents that make me feel ready to dress up for that perfect summers day. Here are my top five summer scents.
I have to start with my favourite summer scent, because my gosh I am completely and utterly excited, just as I was last summer, just as I will be every summer to come. Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess Eau Fraiche Skinscent (£47) is the most delicious, tempting, seductive and truly all-round summer scent in my stash, that I just can't get enough of. A very definite coconut scent, it is a scent I dare anyone to try Bronze Goddess and not become instantly addictive. If you love scents which instantly make you think of hot white beaches, gorgeous blue seas and paradise islands, this is the scent for you. Presented in a gorgeous 100ml bold, golden bottle, the only thing that would make Bronze Goddess better, would be a travel size or rollerball for my handbag... (yes, you all need this)
For those who like something lighter and more fruity, Marc Jacobs Oh, Lola! Eau de Toilette (£33.15 - £55.25) is the perfect alternative, and one of my overall favourite scents. First off, the bottle is just absolutely gorgeous and although it's my only Marc Jacobs scent in my fragrance collection, it is by far my absolute favourite bottle! The scent is the perfect mix between fruity and floral, with top notes of Pear and Strawberry, heart notes of Peony and Rose alongside base notes of Vanilla and Soft Wood. Every time I use this I just instantly feel prettier, I just don't know how else to describe it! A gorgeous summer scent (but a favourite all year round too!)
For those who love floral scents but prefer something a touch more chic, Dolce by Dolce & Gabbana (£38.25 - £62.05) is absolutely heavenly. Another gorgeous bottle, Dolce is topped with a super pretty Marzipan Flower, finished off with a neat little black bow. The scent is gorgeous; one of the more subtle scents in my stash but one of those failsafe ones I know would suit any occasion. With top notes of Neroli Leaves and Papaya Flower, heart notes of White Amaryllis, White Daffodil and White Water Lily, alongside base notes of Cashmeran, Musky Notes and Sandalwood, it's a long-lasting scent that I just can't get enough of.
Diptyque Philosykos (£55 - £72) is one of those scents everyone raves about. I tried to stay away, resisting the hype and trying even hardest to resist the price tag, but as soon as I first smelt this beautiful and unique scent, I just couldn't resist. For me, it's like going back to Cyprus and finding a fruit van on the side of the road on a blazing hot, typically Cypriot day, with the scent of fresh, just-ripened figs. This scent, for me, is more than heavenly. It's home. This is one of those scents you really do need to check out in person to see what I mean (when will technology advance to scratch n' sniff screens?!), and when you do - you will fall just as in love with Philosykos as I am.
The Body Shop Fijian Water Lotus Eau de Toilette (£16)* is the newest scent to join my summer collection, and I have found just perfect for everyday. It's one of those lovely scents that's so subtle, it's more of a fresh, clean scent than anything in particular. Perfectly named, Fijian Water Lotus is a gorgeous light range from The Body Shop that's perfect for a hot summers day when you don't want anything fancy, but something that still has that extra little invigorating touch.
What's your favourite summer scent? Do you have any fragrances in your stash you think I should check out? What's on your fragrance wishlist?
