Bedtime Routine

Bedtime Routine
It'd be nice to say I'm a girl who isn't obsessed with products, but even before I go to sleep I am making use or one product or another, to the point where I've built up quite the bedtime routine. Having space for a bedside table in our new home, so that each of these products are already there waiting for when I'm ready for bed, I'm finding myself happier to sneak up to bed earlier than my usual, to settle down for a good read and some last-minute pampering. I'm very much a night-owl so my usual bedtime is round 2am or 3am, so the encouragement to go to bed earlier is doing wonders for my skin, body and mind.

First up, moisturising. I'm definitely a sucker for a good body care product and practically every scent which greets you in The Body Shop has me smitten. I love popping on a luxuriously thick body butter before bed, leaving my skin super soft in the morning and a dreamy scent to fall asleep to. The Body Shop Coconut Body Butter (The Body Shop*, 200ml, £13) is my go-to body butter right now, adoring the true coconut scent that will almost make you believe you're going to bed on a dream holiday. The Body Shop use Community Fair Trade Virgin Organic Coconut Oil from coconuts which have been organically grown in Samoa (part of the Samoan Islands in the Pacific Ocean which really does look like paradise - see pictures here) Coconuts are gathered, selected and cracked by hand with the flesh being cold-pressed for use in products such as the coveted Coconut Body Butter. It's thick but not sticky, super hydrating and smells delicious. Perfect for making my skin soft and happy come morning.

Next it's time for my lips to have a pamper. Using the Dior Creme de Rose (Debenhams, RRP £20, 10% sale price £18), a luxurious balm with the most delicate scent of rose. Containing my favourite Damask Rose Essential Oil alongside Shea Butter, Creme de Rose leaves my lips incredibly soft and naturally plump. Giving my skin a little pamper before bed, on alternate nights I'm reaching for the Aromatherapy Associates Anti-Ageing Overnight Repair Mask (LookFantastic, 50ml, £51) with skin-loving ingredients such as Millet Seed Extract, Rose and Frankincense. A light-weight cream mask with a delicate scent, each morning after I use the Repair Mask, my skin looks so much happier; brighter complexion, soft, plump skin, and very smooth in texture. It's my favourite overnight mask at the moment, but keep an eye out for a round up post on all the overnight hero products I've tried!

With my lips and skin happy it's time to move onto the next stage of my bedtime routine - winding day from a days working. This part of my routine never changes; hand cream and a good book. Recently I'm drawn to the stunning scent of the Abahna Mandarin & Sicilian Bergamot Hand Cream (Abahna, 50ml, £8) The Mandarin and Sicilian Bergamot have been chosen together to create an uplifting scent which also works to rebalance and uplift your mood. After a long day, it's the perfect scent and helps me relax and settle down ready for some beauty sleep. Pampering done for now, I turn to my reading material of choice which lately has been the incredibly interesting read, Danger! Cosmetics to Go by Mira Manga (Lush*, £19.95) which shares the story of the company that came before Lush, and how the products so adored around the world from Lush now, came to be. It's a really interesting read for any Lush or beauty fan.

When I'm all read-up and my eyes are protesting, I put my book aside and reach for Origins No Puffery (Selfridges, 15ml, £24) which is a cooling and soothing eye roll-on. For me, it's perfect for using not just in the morning when I wake up, but just before sleep too - as my eyes often sting a little from spending my days reading for my dissertation and working on the computer. A dab of my new favourite bedtime product, This Works Sleep Balm (FeelUnique, 10g, £9.60), on my pulse points and I'm more than ready for a restful night's sleep. With French Lavender Oil, which calms, Monoi Oil, which hydrates, anti-oxidant-rich Rose Oil, which strengthens and purifies, I'm asleep in minutes.

I'd love to hear what your bedtime routine is, what products you reach for and what your favourite book to read is right now!

  1. I love the Origins No Puffery - it's amazing and feels fantastic when you apply it. I like to keep mine in the fridge so it's even more cooling and refreshing when I use it.

  6. I really need a bedtime routine, and maybe that sleep stuff - I do not get enough decent sleep hours! Weeknights my routine is literally remove makeup, cleanse, tone, moisturise and eye cream. Usually while catching up on blog reading.
