A disappointing first dabble into bareMinerals

bareMinerals Pout Loud Lip Duo

bareMinerals is a brand I have always been curious about, but never really known whether it was worth a dabble or not. I've heard a lot of mixed reviews over bareMinerals products; some are hailed as holy grails, some not so much. I've also strayed away from trying bareMinerals face products in the past because of the ingredients (mineral oil) But I recently got completely sucked in to what looked like a beautiful set of bareMinerals lipsticks that I decided to give a go, as let's face it, I'm a sucker for pretty lip products.

bareMinerals Pout Loud Lip Duo (FeelUnique, £18): The reason this duo caught my eye is completely down to the shades advertised on the packaging. A gorgeous black cherry and a flamingo pink, I was intrigued. Upon closer inspection I realised the duo are in fact sheer lipsticks, which give a translucent flash of colour with a soft shine finish. Sheer lipsticks aren't really my thing and the only sheer products I really use, are the Maybelline Babylips and Revlon Lip Butters. But, because the swatches on the packaging still looked pretty intense, I though why not give it a go? Described as sheer gels which are loaded with shea butter and jojoba seed oil, for 'maxed-out' moisture and nourishment, there's even a delicious fresh citrus sent. The two shades are Berry Remix, described by bareMinerals as a sheer, ripe berry, and Pink Pulse, described as a sheer strawberry kiss. Except this is where I fall completely out of love with these... Because neither has barely a touch of pigmentation, there's no difference when swatched nor on the lips, between the shades and both are pretty much almost completely translucent on me. Now maybe it's just because I have naturally fairly dark lips, maybe I just got a bad batch, but the packaging has been so incredibly deceiving and I think that lets me down more than the actual lack of colour pay-off. On the plus side, they do glide on lovely and my lips do feel moisturised when wearing them - but they're a pretty expensive way to use what is essentially nothing more than a pretty basic lip balm. I think it'll be a while before I have any more bright ideas about trying more from bareMinerals...

  1. Aw, gutted you didn't like your first BM products!
The range is mostly fab though! Their pressed eyeshadows are my favourite above any brand & their Marvelous Moxie lipsticks are gorgeously smooth and buttery! Their loose shadows I don't like as much, but that's because it's loose and I'm messy lol. There's once shade called Nude Beach though and it's to die for!!

    1. I'm gutted too! I was so excited to give them a go, especially as they are a brand I have been curious about for a few years now. I love the look of their pressed shadows so I might give them another go and pick up one, see how I go with that! That's for all the product recommendations :) xo

  2. I haven't tried any of the bareMinerals products but I have been curious about their face products though. Sorry to hear you weren't pleased with these lip products though but I can definitely see why. It's a rather hefty price tag for basic lipbalms and boo for deceiving packaging!

    1. I definitely think the packaging is very deceiving; I understand they are sheer, but the packaging implies more intensity with the colour pay-off and it just doesn't translate! xo

  3. Not tried the lipsticks but I use their foundation and bare minerals. Gives a flawless even coverage.

  5. They sound and lovely. but I guess for that price you're probably after something a little more than a sheer tint!

    1. Definitely. It's quite a hefty price tag for what is essentially a lip balm! xo

  6. Oh you can tell how sheer they are on the last photo, what a shame! I've never tried anything in the range either and certainly won't be rushing out to buy any. x

    1. I want to give their loose eyeshadow pigments a try, but if they don't fit the bill then that will definitely be my last dabble into bareMinerals xo

  7. I really liked the look of these but was put off when I saw the word sheer on the packaging as I don't do sheer! I saw them on sale in Debenhams yesterday and had a quick swatch of the darker coloured tester and just as I thought they are so sheer I'd have also been hugely disappointed in these. The swatches on the packaging are hugely misleading. Why put swatches on the packaging that in no way represent what the product actually looks like?!

    1. Exactly! I understand packaging is photo-shopped to sell the product, but the lack of pigmentation compared to the colour on the packaging is massively misleading! xo

  8. I saw these in Debenhams on sale for £12 and I've been wanting that plum purple colour so I was very excited, but when I swatched it on my hand, I realised that there was no colour at all, except a shiny finish. I'm glad I didn't buy these. I will easily find a better more pigmented colour somewhere else.
