Going bold with purples

Purple beauty products

Last month I shared a post with you all about my love for pinktastic products in my post 'I'm a Barbie Girl, in a Barbie World...'. The post went down well and I am excited today to share another colour themed post with you all - purple! If you have any suggestions for other colour themed posts you'd like to see, be sure to leave me a comment below with your colour of choice! I love writing these posts as they differ from the usual, simple beauty posts and they are fun to write and pick products for!

I've always been a big fan of purple, but it's only the past year I've become more confident in using purple makeup. I now adore a purple lip and purple blushes and shadows are simply perfect for A/W. Purple is a colour which can work for so many skin tones, you just have to find the right shade and formula to suit you! Today I'm going to give you the low down on my favourite purple nail, lip, cheek and eye products!

A good purple nail polish is hard to find; I like them bright, but not neon, deep but not too dark, but once I've found one it soon becomes one of my most reached for shades. Models Own Lilac Dream (Boots, £5is one of those shades I couldn't be without. Pastel polishes can be impossible to find when you're after a non-chipping, non-streaky formula. But Models Own entire scented pastel range applies effortlessly and streak-free, with long-lasting colour that doesn't chip for a good five days or so. Lilac Dream is the perfect shade for the warmer months of Spring and Summer, but I also love it in the Winter for my toes! The Illamasqua nail polishes truly are some of my most favourite polishes ever. They just have the most perfect formula and a really impressive shade range. Illamasqua Poke (Illamasqua, £14.50) is the most vibrant purple with intense depth you will find. A bright violet purple, it has a shimmer finish and is perfect for any time of year. A favourite polish for me, out of all the shades and brands I own.

When Autumn comes around, the first thing I do is grab my Sleek Pomegranate Blush (Superdrug, £4.49) Sleek blushes are some of my favourite blushes on the high-street with their high pigmentation and colour pay off, and long-lasting formulas, Sleek blushes easily rival those of their higher-end counterparts. Pomegranate is very similar in fact to MAC Cranberry eyeshadow, and can easily be used as a dupe, but as a blush it creates the perfect Autumnal warm pop of colour on my cheeks.

I am besotted with purple lips and there's four products which stand out for me the most, as must have purple-tastic products. Of course, there's a couple of MAC lipsticks in the mix. MAC Rebel Lipstick (MAC, £15.00) is one of those blogger-hyped products that really does deserve the hype. A beautiful purple plum shade, with a satin finish this has an intense colour pay off. I usually have to reapply once or twice throughout the day, although if I don't, Rebel can leave a lovely stain on your lips which I personally like. This is probably one of my most worn MAC shades, and I don't see me falling out of love with it any time soon. MAC Violetta (MAC Pro-Stores, £15) is a recent addition to my collection over the summer, and a shade I quickly became very obsessed with. A truly vibrant, bright purple, with a creamy formula and amazing bright pigmentation, this is not for the faint hearted. A more high-street friendly purple lip product is the Maybelline ColorSensational Vivids Hot Plum Lipstick (Boots, £7.19) Actually similar to Violetta as well as Heroine from the limited edition MAC Fashion Sets collection, Hot Plum is a bright, but not over-powering, purple shade that always brightens my day. I love the formula of the Maybelline ColorSensational Vivids range and they easily rival those of my higher-end favourites. A finishing touch I have loved teaming with my purple lipsticks is my one and only MAC Dazzleglass in Funtabulous (MAC, £17.50) It's as perfect in formula as my Chanel Glossimer in Astral, which featured in my pink-themed post. It has a light shimmer running through it, with a non-sticky or greasy formula and a touch of intense purple colour that's lovely when used alone, but absolute perfection when teamed with Rebel, Violetta or Hot Plum.

There was one palette I knew I just had to include in this post and that is the newly released and limited edition NARS Fairy's Kiss Palette (NARS, £32) I really love NARS eyeshadows, although they are used less often than my more high-street priced shadows. Fairy's Kiss hosts six beautiful Autumnal shades and this has been a must have for me over the past few weeks. Monosque is a limited edition shade for this palette and it is a soft, shimmer pink. Kalahari is a permanent shade and it is soft, pale beige described by NARS as a 'sugared cocoa'. Brousse is another permanent shade and it's a stunning violet with deep, dark undertones. Tokyo is a stunning grey toned lavender with a matte finish, as is Brumes, which is a pale charcoal. Last but not least, something that's a must for me in all eyeshadow palettes, a true matte black, in the form of Pandora. My favourite shades are Monosque, Kalahari and Brousse, which when teamed together create a perfect A/W look. Remember this palette is limited edition, so be sure to snap it up now if you don't want to miss out!

  1. *incoherent noises* I have been wanting MAC's Cranberry eyeshadow but due to the fact that there is sea between me and my nearest MAC store had thought it wasn't going to happen. However, I *do* have Sleek MakeUP's blusher in Pomegranate. Having never been in the position to swatch Cranberry and really wanting to do a tutorial I have seen I am forever grateful that you have pointed out it could be used as a dupe. It is going to happen today!

I think I had better stay away from the Illamasqua website for today as that nail varnish looks so inviting and I am just about recovering from my velvet blusher purchase from them.

Thanks for a great post with a fantastic roundup of products.

  7. Rebel is probably my favourite lipstick at the minute. As much as cold weather for the most part sucks, I love that it makes you want to embrace different things in your makeup and fashion!
