If you have thinning hair, there is an answer...

I think there's a part of me that will always be curious about hair care brands. By trade, I am a fully qualified hair stylist, and even after five years 'out of the business', I am still a little bit too geeky when it comes to hair care. A brand I have recently been introduced to is Nioxin. Now, I don't know about you, but I had never heard of Nioxin before, so I wanted to do a little research to find out who this mysterious brand was.

Nioxin is a hair care brand whose products are specifically targeted at those with thinning hair. Naturally, my hair is very, very fine, and it's certainly thinned out over the years on it's own accord. Most people would think that thinning hair was just for those over the hill, a fact of growing old, but thinning hair can actually affect a huge variety of people, and it definitely isn't age specific - in fact it's quite common for pregnant women or new mothers to find their hair thinning out, sometimes even drastically.

Nioxin was founded in 1987 after Eva Graham, the founder of Nioxin, experienced this herself - her hair begin to thin out after the birth of her first child. Instead of just sitting back and accepting that her hair was thinning, Eva decided to look into a way to treat the scalp with a hair care range that also doubled up as a skincare range - for your scalp of course, I wouldn't suggest popping hair care products on your face!

Nioxin uses advanced technologies which aim to make the most of what you have, transforming thinning out hair, giving confidence back to those who felt they had no choice but to just deal with their hair. Nioxin products help to deliver thicker, fuller and denser-looking hair. Although their products won't be for everyone - some people's hair will naturally thin out over time and this is often a predisposed trait to the individual, but Nioxin proudly claim they have been able to help more than 50% of people Worldwide who experience thinning hair.

There's a huge variety of products available from Nioxin, from shampoos and conditioners, to hair masques and scalp treatments. With such a specialised hair care brand, high-end prices are expected, but you can pick up the whole Nioxin range on 123 Hair & Beauty, at a much cheaper price than the RRP! Have you tried Nioxin before? Be sure to let me know your thoughts!

  1. I know caps lock is the height of rudeness but THANK YOU! I have been trawling through stuff for my thinning locks (due to radiotherapy a few years ago). I had a self imposed spending ban that I completely broke at 4am this morning (blame Sleek, not me) but I am definitely going to give it a try. I don't have alopecia areatis but just not a lot left now - texturing sprays are my best friend at the moment.

I have to say, the absolute best post I have seen in such a long time as you have spoken out about something that is still a little taboo.

    Really appreciate it Sophia xoxox

  3. Firstly, apologies for spamming your Twitter but you are absolutely right about it still being taboo, which as you said it shouldn't be. I think both men and women worry about it too, so this is a fantastic thing that you have blogged about today. I love it when the unexpected but greatly appreciated posts pop up and you have outdone yourself with this one.

I have 4 children and, as Liza said, my hair thinned with each one too. That on top of radiotherapy has left me with very thin hair. I have to wear it down or with (and I don't believe I am admitting to this) a sock bun to give the illusion of having more.

Really can't wait to try this range so as I said before, thank you so much for blogging about it (and yes to the Boots haul please!)

  4. I used Nioxin a while back. I loved it at first and my hair looked healthy, felt clean and looked thicker! But then after a couple of weeks use, my hair fall out was insane and my hair looked awful. It was so thin! Never touched it since.

  6. Nioxin is a little bit like disco pants in the way that on some it works, on other it doesn't. I used to use Nioxin in the salon I worked, mostly for men with thinning hair but also for women as well. It really is a taboo subject that focuses on such a delicate matter and there are lots of women that suffer from the effects (myself included actually). I wrote a post about it actually, if anyone would like to learn more about how to deal with hair loss, take a look at http://stylewithgracehairdesign.blogspot.co.uk/2013/03/dont-lose-your-head-about-hair-loss-my.html

    I hope it helps a little :) x
