Lumie Bodyclock Go75 Original Wake-Up Light

Lumie Bodyclock Go75 Original Wake-Up Light

Lumie Lights, and their Lumie Bodyclock Go Wake-up Lamp, were completely unknown to me until very recently. I was very kindly sent this Lumie Bodyclock to try out and was so intrigued by it. Yes, it's an alarm clock. But boy is it so much more than just an alarm clock. As a Psychology student, I have studied Biological Psychology and know just how extremely important good sleep, and the right amount of sleep, is. I often struggle myself where sleep is concerned. I am a bit of a night owl - I will stay up late, wake up late, and I often nap too (which by the way, is incredibly bad for you) So having something to help me get to sleep better and also wake me up in a better, even healthier way, well it was something which really got my interest.

The Lumie Bodyclock is advertised as being a clock and light which can help you drift off to sleep, wake up refreshed and feeling energised, and help with SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) It has five wake-up sounds (alarm sounds), a night-light, and it has a function which allows you to have a sunset as you go to sleep, and a sunrise as you wake. The point of the Lumie Bodyclock is to imitate a sunrise as you wake up, making it easier to get up. And this is also how it helps with SAD because it gives you a routine which the weather can often interfere with.

So how has the Lumie Bodyclock worked for me? Well let's start with setting it up. I think this really showed me how much I am used to technology made simple. With buttons, lots and lots of buttons. It took me a while to get this set up properly, because I kept messing up the set up with there being just three buttons for everything. But once I had set it up properly, we were on a roll! I really like that you have a sunset setting. This made going to bed, and actually getting to sleep, so much easier. Because before going to sleep I'd get in bed with my book and set the sunset for 45 minutes with the night light. It helped me get to sleep because by the time the light was fully off, I was ready for sleep. Instead of staying up later messing about on my phone or being too lazy to turn the bedroom light off so procrastinating. It's a great feature!

Morning wise, I am in love with the sunrise this gives you! The way it works is you get your alarm for a certain time, say 7am. From 6:30am, the light starts to go on and as the time passes between then and your alarm time, the light gets brighter, like a sunrise! The back of the Lumie Bodyclock also has slants in it, so the light appears almost like the rays of the sun! Then when it's your alarm time the alarm sound starts - I picked birds! It's such a gentle, soothing and relaxing way to wake up! The light stays on then until you turn it off so even if you think about drifting back off to sleep you won't because your room is bright like it's full of sunshine!

I've had this for a week now and I must admit, I was sceptical. I thought, "How is an alarm clock really going to make me fall asleep better, wake up easier and feel more energised and refreshed?" But it does. And it also makes me start the day with a smile, having the (artificial) sunrise in my room, with the sounds of birds (which funnily enough got the birds outside my window in a frenzy one morning!) If that is the affect after just one week, I can only imagine this being great for me over longer time. And it's certainly replaced my old alarm clock with it's nasty, noisy radio alarm. This is far more peaceful.

  2. Wow this sounds like it would be perfect for me! I work night shift so my sleep pattern is totally messed up! It would be great to show my body the "natural" time to go to sleep when the sun sets, and a "natural" time to wake up when the sun rises! Perfect for those who don't actually sleep the normal hours ;)
I think I'm going to have to invest in this!
    Thanks for the lovely review!

  6. I love the idea of this, I have such trouble getting up and definitely feel it's easier in summer when it's lighter! Going to look into getting one of these (also love the idea of birds as the alarm sound!)

  7. Thanks for this review - I've been umming and ahhing about whether to get one for ages. I've spoken to someone else who has one and they also said that setting it up was really difficult so you're not alone!

I now definitely want one but that £75 price tag really puts me off. One for when I've a bit more money I think!!

  9. Recently I have been sleeping TERRIBLY and the lack of sleep is catching up. I've tried apps that have the same sort of idea as this clock but they've never worked for me. Hmmm, it seems worth a try but it's very pricey! x

  13. I have this with a built in radio so I still have the radio to wake me up but it doesn't drag me out of the deep sleep as the light has already mostly woken me up. I've used mine for 2 years and it has made such a difference, especially in the winter when it's pitch black outside. X

  15. I really want one of these, I struggle so much with getting up on dark mornings and have trouble getting to sleep a fair bit too. This looks as though it would be so helpful.

  16. Ooooh, I'm so tempted by this! If it works for you I can imagine it being fantastic, but the whole sunrise/sunset setting would be pointless for me in the summer. I don't know if I'm ready to splash out the £75 on it!x

  19. I have been interested in these for ages, thanks for the informative review! I love how the bird noises made the real birds go mad. I just love the idea of this clock, it would make waking up so good and get rid of my winter blues I hope :)

  21. I've had one for about 6 years (a different model) and it's still going strong. It makes such a difference. Before having in in winter hubby and I would both wake up with sore throats and headaches, feeling like death. Not any more! xx

  22. My sleep pattern is awful, I really want one of these. The price is very reasonable too. My mum once got me an alarm clock, a cat playing a trumpet. I set it, went to sleep and was awoken by the excruciating pain of perforated eardrums. This thing was so loud it woke up the majority of people on my side of the street! X

  23. I have the Phillips Wake up light - got it about 3 years ago, was like... £120 then, but it's really good - the light comes on half hour before the radio or whatever sounds I select and the light that slowly glows up is what usually wakes me up first, very gently :) I'd certainly buy another one :) If only it made tea too!

  26. Hi there! Just to let you know I have a cheaper option at £45. It still has the sunrise / sunset, only difference being there is only one alarm sound (no birds). Given that the light is the important bit, the cheaper one works a treat! :D
