Giving VO5 a try

VO5 Smoothly Does It Curl Defining Mousse, VO5 Give Me Texture Instant Oomph Powder and VO5 Plump it Up Dry Backbomb Spray
I seem to be very late to the VO5 band-wagon. Everyone always raves about them but there didn't seem to be anything that grabbed me. But I was intrigued. Very intrigued in fact, because it seems so many of the lovely bloggers I speak to love VO5. So when I was offered to try out a few of their products I couldn't resist!

The Curl Defining Mousse from the Smoothly Does It range is designed to help define curls whilst also conditioning your hair leaving it styled and healthy looking. My hair is naturally curly so I was intrigued to try this out, especially as although I have some curl taming products which I like, I'm yet to find that one I 'love'. Unfortunately this one hasn't hit that spot - But it's still a good product. Unlike a lot of mousses, I find it defines my curls without making them solid with product. The only down fall for this product with me, is the lasting power. It lacks it, majorly. But for someone with loose curls I think this would be very good (mine are loose, tight and frizzy!).

The Dry Backcombing Spray is from the Plump It Up range. This product promises a few things. It promises to instantly (yes, instantly) give fullness for amazing volume, minus the damage which comes with the usual back-combing methods, as well as being used as a 'pick me up' style re-activator (aka, dry shampoo?) For me, it does something much, much simpler. My hair lacks volume so occasionally I do dabble in a bit of back-combing with some super strength hair spray. This usually results in hard, over-sprayed hair, that doesn't give me the volume or back combing I want, and feels horrible. This product however, works to give my hair that little bit of oomph it needs, making back-combing easier and holding it in place, without that hard, sticky feel afterwards. I like this product!

The final product from V05 I have been testing out, is pretty darn adorable. From the Give Me Texture range, the Instant Oomph Powder is a product which has impressed me, confused me, but firmly made it's way into my favourite hair care products family. To use, you are meant to sprinkle onto your root area, rub it in, and get instant lift and grip. It adds texture to your layers, and gives 'oomph!' to fine hair. I prefer a different method. To avoid that 'white hair' look, I sprinkle this onto my GHD Paddle Brush and brush through my hair from the bottom working up, starting at the roots. I find it does give me a bit of volume if my hair is clean and washed that day, but if it hasn't been washed the same day, volume is does not provide. The reason I really like this little wonder product though is because it gives me that touch of volume, whilst basically working as a dry shampoo. And with that in mind, the size is perfect for popping in your handbag for on the go!

For me, VO5 is a fantastic affordable and purse-friendly high-street brand. I think their product range has something for everyone and I'm excited to branch out and try more from VO5. What's your favourite VO5 product?

  1. I am really tempted by the oomph powder, but I find it weird that you've said it doesn't give you volume if you haven't washed your hair that day. Might have to keep looking for a volumising powder!

  9. I have naturally curly hair myself and use the VO5 Curl defining mousse lots!! It really does help to tame the frizz, cos frizz is a huge problem for us girls with natural curls. Its also soft and doesn't leave your hair crispy which I hate.

  11. I have the oomph powder but I have fairly thick hair and it just doesn't hold the volume. I think I read the bottle after buying and it said "for fine hair" or something? So maybe that's why. xx

  16. I have been looking for a volume product for a while now, whether it being shampoo, mousse or hairspray. So far I haven't found one that works with my hair. My hair used to be really thick but due to a little stress a few years ago it has gone thinner :(
I like the sound of the powder and the backcomb spray so I'll give it a try :)
    *fingers crossed*
