Lush BIG Sea Salt Shampoo

A picture of Lush BIG Sea Salt Shampoo

BIG is a Lush product I have heard about over and over again in the blogosphere. It's a popular product, but one which never really appealed to me. Mainly because I have tried shampoos from Lush before, and I'm talking about ten years ago here, and they just really didn't work for my hair. And if you're anything like me you'll know that if you try a product from a brand and don't have a great experience with it, it can kind of put you off of trying the same kind of product from that same brand again. So despite all the hype and rave reviews of this somewhat cult product from Lush, I avoided it and didn't really give it a second thought. That was, until the Nottingham #bbloggers meetup.

Whilst in Lush me and Charlotte who runs Lilmisschickas we were discussing BIG, as it is a bit of a favourite product for her. A member of staff told us a bit about it and at the time I didn't really feel I could justify the price. So I said I would leave it. But then Charlotte suggested I get a sample of it and the girl was very happy to give me one, so I took one! And boy oh boy am I glad I did!

BIG, which costs £11.25 for a 330g tub (ouch!), is a rich shampoo, full to the brim with sea salt. It also contains seaweed, which coats the hair making it smoother, stronger and silkier, and coconut to give softness to the hair, as well as fresh lemons and limes to give shine. It also has a bright and uplifting fragrance of neroli, mandarin, orange flower absolute and vanilla (basically, it smells blooming lovely!) It gives your hair a through clean and cleanse, gives your hair lift and volume, whilst leaving a long lasting refreshing scent and your hair easy to manage. The use of salt in this shampoo, which is a natural preservative, means it contains no added synthetic preservatives. The sea salt is also what gives volume! All you have to do is work it through your hair, working up a lather, then thoroughly rinse, before repeating the process for a second time.

This stuff is fantastic! At first it was a bit unusual to use and using it took me about three or four washes to get it worked in to a proper lather and not worry that the sea salt would damage or harm my hair or scalp. Every time I use this it leaves my hair, quite literally, squeaky clean. It also gives my hair what looks and feels like the most natural volume, ever! My hair is left so silky smooth and has a natural looking shine to it. It just looks and feels so, so healthy! I love it. I did start off by using this just once a week but now I use it most days because I find it is the best shampoo I have yet tried which keeps my oily roots at bay all day long, regardless of what I am doing or how many products I have in my hair. I will definitely be repurchasing this, I wish I had listened to the hype well before I did, and I would recommend this to literally anyone! You can find it on the Lush website, here. If you have tried BIG before, let me know what you think to it!

  1. I bought this, along with the solid conditioner because the Lush lady told me it would strip my hair colour (It didn't) I liked the shampoo but my god, the conditioner is AWFUL. it gave my hair ZERO nourishment and it was so knotty after! POO :(

  16. I LOOOVE this stuff, but I use it quite infrequently due to the hefty price tag. I dropped it the other day in the shower and about half of the shampoo fell out - I hurriedly scraped it all back up but lost a lot of it - I almost cried! x

  24. They have been talking about this on dailymail recently.... you apparently get the same results from 1/3 shampoo.. 2/3s coarse sea salt. You just mix it up and apply, works out a hell of alot cheaper
