Maybelline 24HR Color Tattoo

By now, I think everyone has bought and tried at least one shade from the Maybelline 24Hr Color Tattoo range. Available in seven shades in the UK, these cream gel eye-shadows boast a lasting power of 24 hours (although anyone who wears make up for 24 hours straight needs a slap on the wrist and a bottle of Bioderma shoved in their face!)

When these first hit UK stores, I wasn't really all that interested. I'm not a massive fan of cream gel eye-shadows and find them really hard to use, prone to creasing and generally they seem to have no lasting power. So I wasn't wowed by the launch of these nor did I rush out to buy any. But, as with a lot of things I buy, after a (lot) of gentle (not so in this case) persuasion from my bestie Hayley, I decided to give in and picked up three shades.

The three shades I picked up were 55 Immortal Charcoal, 40 Permanent Taupe and 05 Eternal Gold. I was really excited, now that I had finally taken the plunge, to try them out. Oh but how this excitement didn't last. For the first month or so of having these raved about shadows, I hated them. I thought they were a complete waste of money and I really regretted buying them. No matter what I did, they applied bumpy, grainy and were impossible to blend or apply evenly. I was gutted - I really wanted to like them. Why did everyone else love them? Why didn't they apply nicely on my lids like they did on everyone elses?

I tried so many different methods. I tried using my finger tips, eye-shadow applicators, eye-shadow brushes. Nothing worked. That is, until Joliebox sent an eye-shadow brush in one of their boxes, and I decided to give it a try.

The eye-shadow brush which came in the Joliebox is made of synthetic hair and has been an absolute saviour with these. It makes application easy and perfect, gliding the shadows over my lids with no problems. It has made me fall in love with these shadows and now I really want to add more to my collection.

I love using this alone, together or as a base for a smokey eye. They are just so versatile! Do you have any from the range? Which are your favourite shades?

  1. So weird when brands give products different names in different countries! I love these and actually did an entire blog post about them reviewing them too! I think the three colours you have are my favourite. Although I also love "pomegranate punk" but not sure what its UK equivalent is?

  2. Yay, you found something that worked! I have actually not tried these as yet, due to my spending ban! They're a lot more expensive here too so I didn't bother when they first came out (hoping the price might go down!)
But these are added to my wishlist (especially the gold! Looks amazing!)

  9. It's so weird that these have different names than the in the US! Here, the taupe is Tough as Taupe, the gold is Bold Gold, & I don't remember the charcoal. I love the bronze one, the taupe, & I have a cranberry color--all beautiful!

  13. I have the same problem with them, well, with any that aren't Eternal Gold - they're all lumpy and they move and crease like crazy, but with Eternal Gold I find it stays put more than the rest - the others I've given away :S
